Hats off to siddiq barmak. Review on Osama Movie

Siddiq Barmak is an exceptional film-maker. He has made many films... but were all destroyed by the taliban.this is the first movie to be made in Afghanistan post taliban's downfall.This movie is shot in the war ravaged, Afghanistan. The opening scene were hundreds of widows were protesting and demanding their right to work were washed away when the taliban gushed water was enough to give us an idea of the respect given to women. Siddiq Barmak wanted to cast real people i.e. Not actors. He went up to a pretty girl who was begging in Afghanistan and offered hera role in osama. The poor girl had no idea what a movie was!touched by her innocence he immediately cast her . She plays the title in the movie.is now popularly known 'osama' though her real name is marina golbahari do u rem that guy who was begging in th 1st scene and always trying to give a helping hand to 'osama' as much as he could? His name is Arif Hetari not Espandi(name in the movie) when siddiq offred arif the role he said, he would do it but on the condition that siddiq buy all his dogs!!!!! Well' he couldnt buy his dogs but the audience did catch a glimpse of the dog.(rem?) I watched 'Osama'with my friends in college when we had the film festival.I urged them to watch it. Before the film began, one of my friend whispered into my ear that she would not spare me if the movie turned out boring. Thank god she liked it and I was spared! 5 scenes which touched my heart: 1) osama is disturbed by the taliban. Her grandma and mom decide to disguise her as a boy and work for the family. 2) Espandi wants osama to prove to the school boys that she is a boy and asks her to climb the tree 3) When she is unable to get down the authorities punish her severly till she starts bleeding 4)Her boss takes her to the mosque for prayers but unaware pf proper prayers she tries following her boss 5) Lastly when the taliban hand her away to an old mullah for deceiving people by disguising herself as a boy. Well,there are many more. But u need to watch it to experience 'osama' we people need to be glad and satisfied with whatever we've. Afghans and people the world over are still struggling for freedom and dignity in their own country
