If you are in the mood for a ‘dining experience’ with great food and charming ambiance and right in the middle of the city- Orange peel is the place to go. Housed in the courtyard of a colonial styled Jewish bungalow, the restaurant has a relaxed yet posh air. The food selection ranges from Japanese cusine to European.
The menu offers you canapés as well as murg tikka masala. Despite the wide range and cusines spanning over several continents each dish is a delight, flavored originally to ensure that the Indian palate is satisfied. I decided I wanted some seafood for my main course and the John Dory with White Wine Three Pepper Sauce was recommended. The sauce was perfect- thick but not overly so and the pepper was light –almost barely there. The fish was fresh and tasty and easy to eat. It would have been perfect with a good white wine.
I however chose some of the movenpick cocktails- the only one of its kind IN India –and available only in Orange peel. With fun names like urban diva and passionate pina and the colorful appearance I thought they would be interesting. The cocktails are certainly different mixing alcohol and serbets – different and refreshing. However I would give them up in favor of more conventional and traditional spirits.
I you are in the mood for something new- go ahead and try one of these. Besides the restaurant, the Bungalow houses some very pretty boutique stores selling footwear clothes jewellery and bags. All pretty and and surprisingly not exorbitantly priced- it’s a worth a look around
