Oppo Neo 7 is the successor of Neo 5, which was also launched at the same price but with a smaller screen.

Oppo, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer has been trying to capture the mid-budget segment with its Neo series. The focus remains on offering premium build and mid-range specs in under Rs 10, 000 budget and Oppo Neo 7 is the latest such attempt.

Oppo Neo 7 offers an iPhone-like screen flash to take better selfies in low-light, but in the mid-budget category, we’ve seen stronger contenders like Lenovo K3 Note, Xiaomi Mi 4i setting a standard. What is good?

The most noticeable feature of the smartphone has to be its sleek and stylish design. Like most Oppo phones, Neo 7 will attract eyeballs as you hold the smartphone in your hand. It is lightweight, but definitely not the lightest one around and will not slip out of your hand easily.

Neo 7’s camera is a delight as it captures subjects in details and the auto-focus too is pretty fast. While it does a good job clicking pictures in daytime or in places where there’s ample light; you are in for a disappointment when you click pictures in low-light. The selfie-screen flash however does not quite work out like you would hope for.

Snapdragon 410 processor will not give you reasons to complain about the phone’s performance. I opened multiple tabs, watched videos and played games simultaneously and the phone worked just fine throughout.

Oppo Neo 7 comes with an decent battery life and lasted for a little more than one day as I used it as my primary phone.

What is not good?

The screen flash surprised me with a good amount of flash light but the results were quite disappointing. The flash focuses only a small amount of area on the screen and in my case, half my face was light up like a ghost, while the other half was not, which gave a weird result.

One of the major problems with the phone is that it takes way too long to get fully charged. The Neo 7 took more than 3 hours to charge, which for me didn’t work out quite well. I use my phone to do a lot of things on the go and keeping it on charge for so long was a bit cumbersome.e tc
