Vying for a piece of the Pie - Small Car Big Power. Review on Opel Corsa Sail 1.6

GM India has finally woken up and in the past couple of months launched a slew of products under the Opel and Chevrolet badge, with several more to follow in the next couple of months. The Smartest move has been a backward product extension of the Corsa in the form of the SAIL. The car comes with the same to powertrains of 1.4 & 1.6 Litre engines. Technically the two variants of this engine have been successfully tested on both the Corsa (sedan) & the Corsa Swing (estate) versions of this car. Now ith a shorter wheelbase of 2443 mm, this car brings GM into the fray for a shy at the small car segment. Though I feel a price just under Rs. 4.00 lac would have really given this car the jumpstart it would've required to make a dent in the market of the zens and xings, but a price of Rs. 4.35 (1.4) & Rs. 4.69 (1.6) puts this car out of reach of most small car entrants. I makes for a good choice for go-betweeners, bridging the gap between small & mid segment. Fuel efficiency is going to play another vital role. The car gives, now don't be alarmed, a cool 15-16 km/litre on the highway, but in the city the figure is around 11-12 km/litre.

This isn't all that bad considering the car packs a punch at 88/92 bhp for the 1.4/1.6 respectively. The interior's have been upgraded since you probably last had a look at the Corsa. Silver center console & Instrumentation which is the first thing that catches your eye. Space is something I need not talk about, since the car is based on the same platform as the original Corsa, for most small car buyers it will more than meet their expectations. What will be the best part is the fact that this car once on the road will make heads turn the same way the Corsa Swing did with it's unique red & yellow colours. The Corsa Sail also has some freaky colours like the Green which will surely make your head turn. What is left to be said is that with the right kind of Ad campaign, positoning & service back-up, this car couls be what GM needs to bring it back into the confidence of discerning Indians.
