This is the only place that can claim to better any rival typically Punjabi Paratha.
These ones made and served here are of a different and very soft variety that just melt and dissolve in your mouth.
The stuffings are so yummy that you wouldn't be able to decide whether to munch the tiny crumblike cauliflower stuffing or just let it caress your tongue and swallow it after you have savoured the delicious taste.
My words can do no justice to the creative genius who has turned this art of making parathas into a speciality that is so far unsurpassed anywhere in India and I have tried the really heavy desi ghee varities in Delhi's famous 'parathe wali galli' and the dhabas in Amritsar and on the highways of Punjab, but more on that in some other review.
Pappi ( every fifth sardarji in Punjab has that name ) was never a restaurateur. He was into finance and all of a sudden he jumped into this fry pan - and what a jump. He started off with a rented outlet in Lokhandwala so small that the boss had to wait outside.. he still waits outside even after starting this big one in Bandra ( thats how crowded this place is )
Today he has surprised even himself with his success. Full kudos to him, because he has managed this by taking a very keen interest in the kitchen and handpicking his cooks and his ingredients even now.
The softness of his parathas is a secret that I hope he will reveal to me someday and I promise to share that with you all soon.
I had the opportunity to salivate on his gobhi and paneer parathas which are truly amazing and to the Bombayite they are a complete meal unto themselves because they are served with the traditonal Punjabi Daal layered in butter or cream cooked on a slow fire .. sure to satiate a hungry stomach very soon. Heavy stuff this - order your choice one dish at a time cause you may not be able to consume all of it.
The other embellishments are a delight too -like the gol- gappas (pani puris) chaats and dahi delights akin to Elco Pani Puri stuff but with a better ambience and seating.
All in all a truly different cuisine from the regular Chinese Thai or Italian kinds that are more the norm these days.
Definitely not for the diet concious - This place is taboo for them and a torture to not be able to eat but watch.
Have fun friends and let me know how you like this place after you've given it a shot.
Tally ho !
