I own similar onkyo SR 5400 since more than 3 years. Its great value for money.
It is 7.1 channel with 2 front speakers that deliver rich notes, 1 center speaker to enhance the voice notes, 1 sub-woofer to deliver low-frequence high bass notes, 2 side speakers and 2 rear speakers all togther deliver a wonder dolby / dts surround notes. I've replaced the front 2 small speakers (that comes with the package) with 2 speaker towers that enriched the front notes delivery. Two optical inputs are great that enabled me to connect Tatasky+ and Sony PS3 and listen to a great clear surround digital audio. The coaxial input helped to connect to Philips DVD player though the DVD player supports optical output.
The 3 HDMI connections helped me to unify all the inputs from tatasky+, ps3 and DVD player as inputs with one HDMI connection output to the 47" LG Full HD LCD panel. A lot of wire managment is simplified. It has other like component video, analog video and audio input/output etc.
The downside (1) there is no upscale from lower definition to high-definition of video signals (2) connections and configurations are complicated (3) bulky comparing to Bose lifestyle V35 model (4) a complete HDMI utilization for the audio and video would further simplified for example all the optical and coaxial could be removed, I think the high-end models have this faciity (5) For an audiophile this will still be an entry level system
