The Perfect Smartphone under $400!. Review on OnePlus 3

I have been using the OnePlus 3 for the last 2 weeks. Here goes my review of the device. If you want to get a quick review of the same and avoid the in-depth review that is below, just go through the characters in bold.

Design and Build

OnePlus 3 has the best design amongst all the OnePlus devices that have been launched till date. The "single aluminium-bar carved out unibody" design looks magnificent. It is very thin, only 7.3 mm thick, or should I say 7.3 mm thin? The metallic buttons feel tactile. The dedicated Alert Slider makes it easy to toggle amongst'All Notifications mode', 'Priority mode' and'Silent mode'. The build quality is top notch and undoubtedly gives the feel of a device worth$700 or more.

Hardware

The device packs a Snapdragon 820 processor and a whopping 6GB of RAM which definitely makes you future proof for the coming years. The AMOLED panel over the 5.5 inch Full HD display is a wise decision by OnePlus as it helps you save battery. Also, the display is vibrant and crisp owing to the 401 ppi density. The output from the speaker grill is great for a smartphone at this price. The fingerprint scanner is faster and more accurate than the Touch ID on an Apple iPhone. You just need to touch it and it unlocks the device in no time.

Software

It runs on the Oxygen OS interface which keeps the stock Android Marshmallow design intact while adding some genuinely useful features of its own like the proximity display, double click the power button to launch camera, a V-gesture on the lockscreen to turn on/off the Flashlight, an O-gesture to turn on the Camera and many more.

Storage

It houses a 64 GB internal storage with no expandibility even through the 2-nano sim slots. It may be disappointing for some but still, 64 GB(52.66 GB available to use) is more than sufficient for many.

Camera

The primary/rear camera is a 16 MP shooter which delivers excellent pictures with accurate colors and lots of details in good lighting conditions but in low-light, it kind of stumbles. However, a device at this price does a great job with the camera. It has 4K recording capability, 'Slow Motion' at 720p, Time-lapse and Manual mode for clicking pictures. The front camera is a 8 MP shooter which is great for selfies.

Battery

OnePlus 3 packs a 3000 mAh battery which easily gives 12-13 hours of usage while continuous connectivity over Wi-Fi, gaming and music. When not connected to Wi-Fi, feel at ease to use it for a complete day or a little bit more.

Extras Features

NFC is back on the OnePlus 3 which was not present on the OnePlus 2. It has the DASH Charging capability which juices up the device from 0-60% in just 30 minutes. The customisability options offered by OnePlus is the best part about them. You may use your device the way you want with the various customisability options(already mentioned some of them in the Software section) that are present in the device.

Conclusion

The OnePlus 3 is a great deal for$400. It goes toe-to-toe with the high-end flagships of 2016. It surely doesn't a QHD display, an expandable storage option, a world class camera but considering the price, one would surely be OK with all of that. One thing is for sure and that is, you will be future proof for the coming 2 years or a little more if you have this device which offers you all of the high-end smartphones features of 2016 for almost half their price.
