Deborah Cox is definitely a bright star on the horizon of mainstream R&B. With a lush alto voice, engaging songs and a great selection of material she has proven with her album One Wish that she has what it takes.
I was first introduced to Cox on her fantastic single ''Nobody's Supposed To Be Here''. Filled with gospel influence and soulful vocals she discusses her battle between being hurt and falling in love again. The back-up vocals do a superb job in enhancing this slow song and Cox really puts a lot of feeling into her performance.
Another song I really enjoy off this album is the remix of an earlier hit called ''Things Just Ain't The Same''. Enhanced with a vibrant dance beat, this song has great vocals, decent lyrics and flare.
Some other ballads that are enjoyable on this album is the Diane Warren penned ''One Day You Will'' and ''I Never Knew''. Both have melodies that are easy to remember and have lyrics that could easily apply to a romantic situation a person might be in.
''It's Over Now'' is a medium paced song that is straight to the point. The guy has been messing around on her and she is ending the relationship. I really enjoy the flow of the lyrics and her strong voice on this one.
Overall, this is a very solid album in the genre of R&B. I feel Cox is a great artist and I am looking forward to her next effort. She also has improved her choice in material from her first album.
