O'Thakela - Total Waste of Money & Time

Unless you really really "really" like Othello and Shakespeare, don't experiment with your time and money watching this pathetic movie.

Which brings me to the movie O'Thakela (Omkara). Now, how original can you be? Copy a western literary "superhit" story, and adapt it with in an "Indian village" with a Gujjar bent of mind.

I am writing this review, because the movie was a total let-down, and a waste of time.

The movie is (divided into minutes):

  • First 15 minutes, the setting and the story unveils.

  • Sleepy 120 "predictable" minutes, Saif is trying to create a rift between O'Thakela and Vivek (Viveik? another Thakela in the movie)... very boring

  • Last 15 minutes, 4 people die in 7 minutes. 1 person gets shot in the head and survives.

To cut short my losses (of time), I am writing point-wise, and character-wise, so read carefully:

  1. Kareena dies, without any "Oscar performance." At the end of the movie, I was watching in disbelief, when Kareena was being murdered by O'Thakela. I read somewhere in a "MouthShut review" that in the end of the movie, it was one of her best acting of all time. She surely woulnd't die right? Where is her Oscar performance? Total let down, no performance, she dies (in two minutes though, maybe this is her super performance). Well, if people are calling this "Oscar" performance, I have seen monkeys and dogs perform better. Maybe it is an achivement for a blind to seeing, as it is for Kareena to acting.

  2. O'Thakela! Great hero? Great tragedy? People say it is a tragedy of O'Thakela, that he loved and lost. Firstly, who would care about a goon who does nothing in the movie, except suspect his would-be wife and kills her in the end. What does he do in the film? Nothing. No one does anything, except Saif. He should have shot himself in the beginning when he read the script.

  3. Saif the hero? Dies hilariously. It would make more sense if he was shown more prominently in the posters, after all, you see him about 70% of the movie. He was "the" character and best performer in the movie.

  4. Bipasa? Well, she just dances. That is all she is good at anyway. No role for her.

  5. Nasu-Shah guy? Does nothing in the movie. No role for him either.

  6. Viveik? Gets shot in the head (twice??), comes back to life. Superman, watch out! Does nothing in the film.

Be warned! And watch the first 15-minutes on a CD first (you will know the entire story). If you like it so much, you can always watch the "boring part" (rest of the movie) and the "let-down" part (ending) at the theatre.
