First things first…. I must congratulate Vishal Bharadwaj for pulling the Indian Version of Othello with such finesse. Vishal didn’t disappoint third time in succession and proved to be a true director who would make a film with "substance", rather than people like Madhur Bhandarkar who impress for the first time and take audiences for granted and hope for a same kind of applause to even a second grade sleazy, rubbish movie like "CORPORATE".

Though I haven’t read Othello (for that matter I did not read any of Shakespeare’s works) and never intend to, I think Shakespeare’s seems to a master in playing with human emotions, and one must accept Vishal is no less in bringing these very emotions on to the screen so brilliantly

I am so very impressed with the movie that I decided to write a review of a movie for the very first time.

The casting could not be better except for vivek, though I must accept that vivek can never (at least in the near future) match the acting prowess of the other cast members. Now that doesn’t mean Kareena is in the same league as the others, but to my surprise she did manage well.

The screen play was so near perfect, the music perfectly complimenting the theme, the dialogues so simple yet so powerful, the cinematography bringing the magical rustic rural setting to life, the superb performances of the cast and the whole plot ensured that Vishal had a gripping tale to tell and take the audience to roller coaster ride of human relationships and emotions.

THE PLOT:

The story revolves around four main characters, the first being Omkara a.k.a. Omi (Ajay), a gangster (not exactly the kind shown in regular Hindi films) working for Nasserunddin Shah ,a politician with a strong hold in his constituency. Omi is Bahubali (a head honcho). of the gang. The second of the characters is Langda Tyagi a.k.a. Langda (Saif) , a faithful accomplice of Omi. The third being Keshu Firangi a.k.a. Keshu (Vivek), young educated guy whose interests include playing guitar and being part of the political system. He starts being a part of Omi’s team. The last of the characters is Dolly (Kareena), daughter of a lawyer who is deeply in love with Omi..

The story begins with Omi having to take custody of Dolly for she being forced to marry another guy Raju (more abt this guy later). Dolly’s Father requests Naseerunddin Shah to help to get his daughter back from Omi, but Naseer brokers peace between Omi and Dolly’s Father. Omi brings Dolly to his house and decides to marry her.

The story picks up pace with Nasseruddin Shah declaring Omi as his replacement for the next election, thus making it necessary to find someone as the next Bahubali. Omi zeros upon Keshu as the replacement as the next Bahubali for garnering more votes from the younger voters. This act devastates Langda for he feels that he would be the next Bahubali and triggers a series of unfortunate events wherein he corrupts Omi’s mind about Keshu and Dolly having an "illegal " affair. (Both of who studied at the same college).

The climax is too good to be revealed. Please do go and Watch it, but don’t except anything that u anticipate from a regular run of the mill kind of Hindi cinema.

THE PERFORMANCES:

Omi…Omkara: Ajay Devgan is one of the finest actors of our times. The ease with which he settles in to the character makes one think that this man certainly deserves an Oscar. The man who gave us Gangajal, The legend Of Bhagat Singh, Apaharan, Company certainly out performed himself.in Omkara. He has become one of my favorite actors.

Nasserunddin Shah: Wat else can one say of this man…Simply brilliant. Some of his scenes are really awesome (one scene I was impressed was the one in the train with Ajay and Saif).

Langda Tyagi: Boy-oh-Boy………..Saif has given one of his best performances till date. After "Being Cyrus" Saif has delivered yet another fantastic performance. The subtle variations that he brings in to the character are truly amazing. If guys from film fraternity are listening …please, this man deserves better roles than he is been given to date. Will definitely blow you away with his performance in Omkara.

Desperate to see more of him.

Vivek as Keshu: perhaps one of the few flaws of the movie. But…I tried hard, but could not find a substitute for the character he plays in the movie. May be Vishal did not have many options. Though not up to the mark, certainly was bearable.

Kareena as Dolly: Surprise Surprise…….Kareena too can Act. Undoubtedly her best performance. I never even in my wildest dreams thought that Kareena could act especially after I saw "Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham" and "main prem ki diwani hoon". All credit to the director for bringing out the actor in Kareena.

According to grapevine, Vishal is so impressed with Kareena that he is decided to cast Kareena in all his future projects, Oh lord please make Vishal change his Mind.

Konkana Sen (wife of Langda): As usual …treat to watch. Has quite a few powerful dialogues (especially the one when Ajay tells her about he having doubts Kareena).

The other guy who was impressive was the guy who was suppose to marry Dolly (Reel name is Raju) His scenes with Saif bring in much needed comic element in the movie.

THE DIRECTOR: VISHAL BHARADWAJ

This man can direct, make music, write dialogues and I wonder wat else he is capable of. I did not watch his earlier films and am making sure that I watch them the coming weekend. Certainly a director of international standard, capable of taking his audiences to new and higher levels of viewing experiences.

He is one of the handful of directors who can take Hindi film industry to the next level.

THE DIALOGUES:

The film is packed with great dialogues and can bring you to the cinema halls for the second time. Simply amazing …especially the ones rendered by Saif.

VERDICT:

PLEASE GO WATCH IT………But if you did not like it ,don’t curse me….
