I went to see Omkara after reading very good reviews, though I was quite skeptical because I read excellent reviews about Gangster which I didn't like very much.
The story of Omkara is based on the classic 'Othello' by Shakespeare. The director has beautifully pictured the story in the villages of U.P.
Dialogues are excellent and fits apporiately to the scenes. Though some people complain about the foul language used in the movie, I think they were necessary to some extent considering the background of the story. I saw the movie with my friends and I enjoyed it , but I warn you if you are planning to watch the movie with your family.
The acting was overall very good. Ajay Devgan was good as always in a serious role . I really didn't liked him in his comedy 'Golmaal'. Kareena Kapoor had nothing to do much and her acting was so-so. Personally I feel her makeup was too much considering the village background. Konkona Sen, after 'Page 3' had done brilliantly as a typical village woman. Bipasha Basu was there but she had very little role, though I think her way of speaking typical 'U.P.' was not that natural.
Special mention must go to Saif Ali Khan who really astonished as Langda Tyagi , making sinister plans and working behing the back of Omkara. At the end of the movie, it was really Saif who made it to the lips and hearts of movie-watchers. I really think he deserve to be nominated for National award for acting (if Best actor doesn't mean someone who is a typical Indian hero always doing good)
Songs were so-so and at times you wish they were not there.
Finally, Omkara is a movie where you know what is about to come but still you wish that end should not come. It is a story about love, hatred , betrayal, evil plans and regret.
This is a really must watch movie!!
