STORY: It's the 70s. Omprakash Makhija(SRK) is a junior artist who has a crush on superstar Shantipriya(Deepika Padukone). His mom(Kirron Kher) and his friend Pappu Master(Shreyas Talpade) exist in the film only because they can make fun of all things 70s. Om dies and is reborn as a star kid. He starts getting weird vibes/dreams about his last birth.
REVIEW: Ok, so here's the verdict - the first half of the film is funny and watchable. The film starts getting a bit boring minutes before the interval, andĀ 10-20 minutes after interval, it turns into a yawnfest with random songs thrown in with unfunny jokes and unbelievable situations. Yes, the period after interval bored the balls out of me. The problem with OSO is that you can't tell when it is a spoof or when the story is genuinely serious. Even after majorĀ suspension of disbelief(which was expected), the rebirth thingie doesn't hold much water and comes across as too superficial, lacking any susbstance. Some sequences like SRK playing a South-indian actor, the Filmfare awards are really funny but then the film loses steam and becomes neither a revenge drama.
PERFORMANCES: Arjun Rampal should retire now and go do some business, he's simply not cut out for films. Deepika Padukone looks superb, charming, beautiful and all that and is a new addition to "pretty ladies who can't act but have a nice screen presence" category. SRK is the man- without him this film would be a disaster!
BOTTOMLINE: Entertaining at times, but disappointing overall!
