*A fun movie that can be watched once, but certainly not something that stirs any stronger emotions.

I found OSO to be a light fun frothy movie, with lots of funny tricks but a disappointingly soulless caper. The script is weak enough to be almost non-existent. The fun element lies in the intended pun on 70's bollywood with all its idiosyncrasies. And it can be a strictly OK watch on a dull day, specially if you go with low expectations.

The story is about a junior artiste(Om) falling in love with a diva(Shanti), who he ultimately discovers, cannot be his. It doesn't reduce his love for her and he dies trying to save her. She in turn is in love with a ruthless and ambitious producer, who doesn't even hesitate to kill her and their unborn child, so that nothing stands in way of him and his aspirations! This part of the story is further supported by lots of 70s moments and a loyal, loving friend and an extremely filmy mother.

The next part of the story begins with the rebirth of the main protagonist. This time he is born into luxury and gets all that he had only dreamt of in his previous life. He even becomes a superstar, though a very unlikable one! During one of his shoots destiny takes him to the place where he had died trying to save his love, and pretty soon he is reminded of everything. He even meets the villian of the piece who wants to cast him in a movie. Somehow all this makes him a better person. He reunites with his mother and friend and devices a plan to take revenge. Miraculously he finds a look alike of Shanti and so proceeds with his plan. The ending is a mix of the Karz ending and  the Madhumati ending, with the villian being punished for all his sins.

The saddest part is that inspite of dying for her once and even helping her take revenge Om doesn't manage to get his  lady love. All he gets is a lookalike. The Alchemist line that he keeps on repeating doesn't really work in his case afterall and that kind of ruins the love story angle. It is clearly a very shallow product and has been made with quick bucks in mind. Main Hoon Naa actually seems quite deep and multilayered, after this movie. It might evoke a few laughs when watched the first time, but nothing to take home with you. Certainly not a movie, anybody would like to watch a second time.

To be fair, it seems a lot of hard work  has gone into this, but you end up feeling, that the final product was unworthy of the money and the hard work, which was put into it. All the performances are really good and you can't really criticise the actors but it all really seems wasted on such a  sub- standard movie.
