Picture Abhi Bhaki Hai Mere Dost. Review on Om Shanti Om

Happy Diwali To all Mouthshut members its now diwali so that means bollywood is very much involved in making your diwali a special one. This Diwali we have Farah khans second movie after her Hit movie main hoon na titled “Om Shanti Om” is her new project and it has been talked about so much this year. Easily the most awaited movie of 2007 and what a time to release it. Why would it not be overhyped? It only has Shahrukh khan, a track of dard-e-disco where he has got a new look of 6 Pac abs. 31 stars in one song which is titled Deewangi Deewangi, at least a few more special appearances which are worth looking out for example Akshay Kumar and Abhishek Butcahan  to look out for. A Story about reincarnation, first half is a spoof an out and out comedy of the 70s and second half is set in the present times 2007. Why would it not be high expectations? It is suppose to be the most entertaining movie of 2007 or of recent times. Does the end product work does it live up to hype? The answer is a big YES! Farah has really grown as director we can see that in this movie.

Lets get this straight when you go in to watch Om Shanti Om Don’t ask questions and leave your thinking caps at home. This movie is all entertainment there will be some people who are to serious enough to hate this movie as they don’t get the concept of the movie. The Concept is out and out fun and entertainment. Yes it does spoof 70s movies but does it in a way which is enjoyable. Yes Shahrukh Khan Does go over the top and over acts but that is what the movie demands.  Just sit back and have fun that is what Diwali is about isn’t it? Well don’t ask questions and just watch a great ride unfold in front of you with amazing sets and moments that will make you laugh, maybe tear up a bit and have your mouth wide open. Om Shanti Om has it all really; it’s a fun package of excitement. It has great songs, great dance, comedy, action and romances something for everyone really.

The story starts of in the 70s, Shahrukh Khan(Om) a junior artist, he wants to make it big and he does small roles in the movies like a background actor etc. His dream is two things and that is making it big as a star actor in bollywood and getting the girl of his dreams(Shanti) Deepika Padukone, Shanti Is a top actress and Om has a huge crush on her. After Om Saves her from a fire on the sets of a movie(Just like Mother India style) they soon become friends and Om Falls for her big time thinking she likes him in that way back. But Om spots Shanti talking to her top producer(Arjun Rampal) secretly and finds out she is in love with him and they are married and she is about to have his baby. The problem is that an actress can not be a good seller or famous if she is married or pregnant so her fan audience will go. Afterwards there is a fire on the sets and Shanti Is trapped inside and Om comes to her aid and tries to save her from the fire again this time he breaks in and is unsuccessful. Om Dies and got blown away out the sets and soon run over. Shanti is still in the sets we do not know what happened to her. After the Interval We see Om getting reborn as a huge bollywood star. His memorys and flashbacks come back to haunt him and he is now on a mission to find the truth what really happened? Where is Shanti? will Om get revenge on Arjun Rampal who trapped shanti in the sets and set the whole set on fire.

The movie is very well made some might say it actually feels you are back in time in the first half in the 70s. The song Dhoom Taana is just a treat to watch. Deepika Padukone seems like she is really dancing with the 70s stars on screen. The film starts off well with the song Om Shanti Om from Karz showing Subash Ghai shooting for the song and Rishi kapoor dancing to the song and Om Day dreaming that he is the one on the stage dancing. It feels like its really gone back in time and the old Rishi Kapoor is still there along with the other stars. We have an Over the top Mother Kiron Kher who performance is worth seeing she is really funny/ The first half will tickle your funny bones and have you laughing like crazy. Shahrukh Khan As Om Delivers a smashing performance not award winning but very entertaining and worth a watch he proves why he is the true King of bollywood. Arjun Rampal as the Bad guy gives his best performance till date very natural and he is up for grabs at filmfare as best negative award he should get it! Deepika Padukone Oh my god what can I say about this girl she made me melt when I first saw her, she is without a doubt an angle. She is so beautiful and she acts brilliantly best debute by a female this year by miles. She acts really well especially in the climax which I will not spoil. Speical appreance wise it was a battle between Abhishek Bachan and Akshay Kumar which was funnier at the filmfare both where good but Akshay Kumar steals the cake. He made me crack up so much with his nomination for best actor for The Return of Khiladhi. I won’t Spoil it but just check out what he does and his reaction when he does not get the award, he really is amazing in comic roles like these.

Songs wise, when Om first sees Shanti the Ajab Si track just hits your heart like a rocket what an amazing track I must say. All The songs rock in this album The Deewangi Track last atleast 14 mins and have the all the stars dancing. Mostly topped with music then lyrics the longed the song out but that isn’t a bad thing because it required it, best dance sequence in there as to be my top Two Govinda and Shahrukh khan dancing was amazing Cinema Cheered like crazy when they were dancing! And do not forget Jeetendra and tushar kapoor dancing with Shahrukh Khan was amazing to watch! Kajol And Shahrukh khan looked amazing together too as always

The 2nd half does drag too much tho, which is a big loss for the movie.the secound shanti is dumbed down and it seems really stupid at times. It then becomes a revange movie which soon becomes predictable. But overal it is a good product and does keep you entertained for most the time.

Amazing scenes to watch out for is all the songs, the climax which is surprising and mouth opening. The filmfare award the speech he gives and yes one which I loved when he first visits his mother for the first time as the new Om in his second life. The second half does drag sometime but that is okay every film has its bad moments. Some might say that the first half was such a spoof that it’s hard to know when the film is being serious of funny Eg Kiron Kher when to take her seriously or when to know she is joking. Overall Picture abhi Bhaki Hai Mere Dhost, yes thats right Om Shanti Om will be a craze to be remembered for a long time you can watch it another time as it full of entertainment I don’t know about you but I enjoyed this thrilling ride. Just Put your hands up and say OM SHANTI OM!
