Oliver's Story like most sequels fails to recreate the magic of Love Story. Jenny was the life of Love Story with her witticism's and one liners. Without her - Oliver just can't manage to get our attention and affection.
At the end of Love Story, Erich Segal leaves us with Oliver crying in his fathers arms (making us assume some reconciliatory measure between them) but that angle is not taken up much seriously till the latter end of the book.
But being fair to Oliver and his new love interest - they do have their moments - but its just not the same as Jenny and Ollie. Also I remember feeling that the end was hasty and almost stark - appearing just out of nowhere.
