My wife took me to Olive on a Saturday dinner for my birthday. It was a very good experience not only because of the birthday & the treat, but also because of the ambience of the restaurant and the good tasty food spread that they had. It is well placed near to Castle street and brigade road. They have a nice outdoor and indoor seatign space with good linen and comfortable spacious seatings. The lighting for the dinner is romantic, the waiters donot crowd you and gives you your space, there is no hurried serving to get you out of the restaurant. In short, a good experience
We went for vegetarian food and had started with a Chardonnay 2008 Chile white wine. The wine was very good and I would suggest it for all. Their initial complimentary breads as well as the dips that came along with it was very good. After that, we went for Mushroom starters and a rice based main course as well as a penne pasta. The starter was okay, but the main course was very tasty. The pasta was evenly and well cooked and the slightly spicy tone to it made it better for my Indian palate.
The price is a bit on the higher side, around the 2000 - 3000 mark for 2 (wine does take a good piece of it), but I do think that it's a good place for celebrating special occasions. I will not complain on the price much since I feel that it is required to charge that amount to get the quality of ingredients and exclusivity.
I would also have liked more selection and creativity on the vegetarian side, but we have almost come to a compromise that all these restaurants concentrate on the non-veg.
