Recently I thought of trying out the Olay Total effects cream. I saw a new promo pack stating a free salon treatment worth Rs.500 and decided to buy the same.
That was my mistake. I took the Olay brand name for granted and assumed that the voucher is redeemable at reputed salons..here is the catch - the terms and conditions of the deal are mentioned only on the back of the voucher, which is inside the sealed pack! So if you want to read the terms and conditions you have to first buy the pack (which costs Rs 150 more than the normal pack)..and if the terms and conditions are not acceptable to you, you cannot even return it as you have already opened the pack!
Having made the mistake of purchasing it I still decided to try calling at the numbers provided to fix an appointment at a convenient salon. First of all it took me half a day to get thru the number, and then they say there are very few salons participating in this offer (and they do not even divulge the name of the salon - they only tell you the location) So you can never really be sure about the quality of the salon too.
They then tell you a far off date till when the appointments are already booked. The icing on the cake was when I requested an appointment for the following saturday - the lady said that this voucher is not redeemable on the weekends. Now this is not mentioned anywhere on the terms and conditions at all! Olay expects working women to take a half day off from work to go and redeem a stupid voucher worth 350 (not really 500 cos you already pay 150 premium on the promo pack), at some obscure salon somewhere.
It was futile arguing with her, and I just feel like crowning myself the "FOOL OF THE YEAR". I guess thats why they say that greed is a bad thing..I couldnt agree more :-( Im sure the guys who conceptualised this at Olay are having the last laugh!
