For the fifth time in a row - I'm disappointed. So much so that I couldn't wait to write this review.
Picture this. After a long and tiring day you decide to treat yourself to some delicious dessert.
You walk into Ohri's(Banjara Hills) well after midnight, and have to wait for 45 odd minutes to get a seat and 20 minutes to get a menu card - of course once you've waited long enough to know they're not going to even look at you.
Then since you've been waiting forever, you need a glass of water and to your surprise, there's none on the table. You say "Excuse me!" to the waiter standing next to your table, and he stares you in the face, and just walks away. Imagine having to get up, nudge him and ask for water.
After what seems to be a million years, you manage to attract some of his attention. Once he grudgingly walks up to your table and you ask for a Banana Split - without strawberry ice-cream(yeah, they put strawberry i/c in their Banana Split!).
You wait for about 35 minutes for it - of course they have to be reminded - busy as they are.
(Imagine feeling so royally ignored that you want to rip your arm off
just so you'd have something to throw at them to make them take notice.)
Then the much awaited dessert arrives, and lo and behold! It's full of strawberry icecream! "This is perfect!" - you tell yourself and wave to the closest waiter. And then you want to rip your arm off again, but you'd rather give them another chance, and walk up to the ice-cream counter with the Split in your hand.
This time you give him a piece of his mind, and he just stands there expressionless. Disgusted, you tell him once again what it is you want and walk back to your table. The dessert arrives within 5 minute, and this time, the Lord be praised, without any strawberry ice-cream. But something seems not-quite-right; for you can see no bananas in the Banana Split.
You dig deeper, and find loads of apple and pinapple with pinapple ice-cream on top.
Then you decide enough's enough, and walk up to the manager on duty. After listening to the entire story, he just stares you long enough for you to wonder if he's a maniac, and then says - "So you want pinapple topping also?"
When you give up trying to explain, imagine the manager just shrugging and walking away as if you wasted his precious time.
And now imagine walking out that door feeling worse than you did when you first walked in.
Ohri's is just a stone's throw away from where I live and I eat there al the time; and honestly - service has never been good. But this time, I'm sure they just don't care.
They're the only joint that stays open till late in the night and boy - they are busy!
I guess since Hyderabadis have nowhere else to go after partying all night, they just aren't bothered enough!
Does someone know someone who knows someone who either works for a newspaper or is a restaurant critic?
