It’s my first book review, which I am only writing because I have been doing this book for my coursework and for my exams. There are loads of points which I think have been unclear yet but still the book is readable for once or twice.
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, his novel was published in 1937.
The novel is about the two migrant workers who are known to be George and Lennie. They both always work and travel together.
George is smart, intelligent and has self confidence and takes care of Lennie, Lennie is powerful giant size and has kid’s brains.
George has always been careful about Lennie in every case. Migrant workers were mainly found in America after the American dream had shattered everyone’s dream. It was said that who ever went to America had a good scope but once for all everything had finished.
These migrant workers didn’t have any family they just travelled and travelled from one ranch to another.
The book mainly talks about different people in the ranch who are also migrant workers for example
Crook - is a stable buck, black in colour. He is given his own room by his own self, is always discriminated. Crook has his name Crook due to its crooked back.
Then is Curley and his wife – Curley is ranch owners son, he hates tall and strong guys, as in his past he has been a boxer where his wife who always dreamt of being a actress but unfortunately never been one.
There are others too but I am not going to tell anything about them, you got to catch up for this book trust me it isn’t big or thick either.
But till the time I finished the book I knew that this book is a book everyone should go ahead for as it’s so simple. Everyone has a dream; sometime it does come true sometime it just stays a dream.
The good things about this book are:-
• Lennie a good hearted person but has childish brains
• Sympathy which can be gained very easily towards any of the characters
• Reading the book can make you feel the jealousy
• The book lets you know cold hearted people’s policy and the way people were treated earlier in America.
I think it’s load’s of description about this book, now you got to decide that would you like to read a book which shows the ranch people lives filled with loneliness
