Well well well, I just came back from watching a wonderful movie, and now I am presenting the review of it to you, but let’s have some background knowledge. Just 2 days back, I went to a big religious place, which considered being as one of the most sacred places for the Hindus. I took a different queue, for which the entrance was Rs.100 per person, and why this charges, so as to bypass the long ‘free’ queue of normal devotees, where you have to wait, and wait for 2-3 hours just to see the God (Idol), and I can’t do that, so I paid a minimal (for me) charges for the same. While paying there, I saw different rates for different facilities provided there – Rs.600 for Abhishekam (inside Garbha gruha), Rs.200 for Abhishekam in other mandir, Rs.100, 50 for different length queues. Not only this, accidentally I end up with other family of 5 in a Abhishekam procedure (I didn’t pay for it though!), and after Abhishek, the pandit directly ask for Dakshina, the other guy give him around Rs.500 and touched his feet, I never ever did touched feet of any pandit, since I didn’t feel good doing this, but at that moment, I fell in a flow, but took out Rs.21 and just bending to doing the bad work, he stopped me midway. I was furious, I didn’t say him anything, since it’s his territory, but I learnt a lesson, the thing which you never did or never feel correct doing, don’t do it, and why did he stopped me, simple reason – BECAUSE I PAY HIM ONLY RS.21! Now I will start the review of a wonderful movie named ‘OMG OH MY GOD!’ which depicts the same reality of our world – the problem behind religions and religious so-called charitable businessmen (Pandits).

Kanjibhai Mehta (Paresh Rawal) didn’t believe in God, and did a business by selling God idols and other religious items by sometime making fools out of buyers. One fine day he said something drastic for God, and instantly earthquake came and only his shop was destroyed. Everybody termed it as an act of God, which he himself didn’t believe. He went to the insurance company for claiming his policy, but they termed it as an ‘ACT OF GOD’ and didn’t pay him any money saying that the policy didn’t cover that. He decided to go in court against GOD! Either insurance company will have to pay him, or God will have to pay him for his losses, and with the help of an old lawyer (only one who helps him in preparing notice to be sent to God’s so-called offices or agency – Mandirs!) Hanif Qureshi (Om Puri), he sent notice, and fought against the religious institutions of Mandirs, churches and masjids, where he prove his point that God is inside every man/women of this world, and there is no use of praying idols or donating huge sums to religious places, since God didn’t want money, it will only pocketed by pundits and all other such so-called servants of god. In opposition there stand Gopi Maiyaa (Poonam Jhawer), Siddhewshwar Maharaj (Govind Namdeo) and led by gay-Hindu priest Leeladhar (Mithun Chakraborty), the lawyer from their side is played by Mahesh Manjrekar, and the guy who helped Kanjibhai in his fight is God himself, as Kishan Kanhaiya (played by Akshay Kumar). But that’s not all, there’s too much packed in this small patakha, for which you have to go to cinema hall to watch it.

1st thing 1st, wonderful rock-solid performances by every cast in the film, the lead role is played by Paresh Rawal, and everybody knows his talent, and he did wonderful role and full justice to the role of Gujrati businessman, then comes the act of Mithun Chakraborty, who fantastically pulled off the negative character. Rest other fits perfectly for their roles. Then there comes the punch-packed dialogues, hearing which it was like the actors are actually blowing punches on the face of religious businessmen. Dialogues were the life of movie, and all such dialogues which are used for court-room drama are good ones (for e.g. the dialogue on comparison between Mandir-God with Reliance-Anil Ambani was awesome, movie watchers clapped on it). Now I must appreciate the story-writer who wrote the though-provoking story. This movie is actually based on a Gujrati play ‘Kanji vs Kanji’ (Kishan vs. Kanhaiya) (Bhavesh Mandaliya, hats off to you!), what a thinking I must say. Now the next positive point was the presentation. There are many movies who got inspiration from plays (like What’s your rashee etc) or from such written dramas, but not all do justice with the matter. It takes a right presentation to depict right thing, and Umesh Shukla (director and screenplay writer alongwith Bhavesh) did the perfect thing possible. This movie tells about a serious issue, but not in the serious way but using a comedy track, and which punched though highly-impactful scenes (court-room drama), it did give a message through 2 hrs of its running time, but didn’t look like they are preaching anything (no serious types), and I think it’s the best way they used to give a message – through a satirical comedy.

I was wondering how did this movie was passed by Indian censor-board, as they are famous for their notoriety in banning or cutting such films. The depiction of God was perfect, though at few moments it loses the tempo, the speed, or looked over-ambitious, but yes it has that ambition to make wrong things rights, and if anything we common people started doing as told through a message in film, it will be counted as film’s win. No wonder the movie attracts controversies from many religious institutions. There are 2 songs in the movie – ‘Go Go Govinda’, and ‘Mere Nishan’. ‘Go Go Govinda’ is inspired (or remixed) from “Govinda aala re”, a famous yesteryear song, and this one already climbed the chartbuster because of its music which is full of beats. And ‘Mere Nishan’ is having a soulful music with noteworthy https://lyrics. Two more songs “Tu HI Tu” and “Hari Bol” comes in background while “Hey Ram” didn’t featured in the movie. The album looks worth a listening, where the music is composed by Himesh Reshammiya and Meet Bros Anjan.  Some special effects scenes are also there but which didn’t looked good. 1st half is good, which built up the story, but the 2nd half excels it, and the whole movie is fast-paced where you’ll enjoy every bit of it

I didn’t got a room in a Brahmin Dharamshala at the religious place I visited 2 days back, since as per them my Gotra didn’t suited to their requirements, but I promised myself not to take any rooms in any caste-related dharamshalas or resting places anymore, since I didn’t want to be a part o this ridiculed caste-system, and as the dialogue of movie says “Insan ke liye dharm hai, dharm ke liye insan nahi”, I will say that as the youth of this country, there are many things we all need to correct from this worse situation, to do what is correct and just don’t follow blind-steps. Do not give chandas to religious institutions, if it’s not used directly for helping any needy people, since God didn’t want your money, and help in making one India and better India. I know that this is over-ambition from me, but atleast one can try for himself, that is more than enough, if one knows what he has to do, he don’t need any followers. Do watch the movie (4.5/5) and get some knowledge from the message sent through this film. Though in the end Mithun’s character recite a very true dialogue about us common people “These are not God-loving but God-fearing people”, and when that happen, nobody can stop them from doing their business. Can we?
