HELP! Nokia DECEIVED me. I owned 4 Nokia phones in the past. All were good except Nokia 2300 that was very buggy. My last phone was Samsung 3300 phone that was a great phone. I happened to soak my Samsung phone overnight in a bucket of clothes. I forgot that my phone was in my shirt’s pocket. Hence there was a need to buy a new phone immediately. I told you this so that you know that my Samsung phone did not ever ditch me.

I bought Nokia X2 phone yesterday (29.05.2011) thinking that Nokia phones were best – ROUGH & TOUGH. It took 3 to 4 hours to charge. By yesterday night, I was enjoying this phone since I thought it was a great phone. It has good sound quality comparable to my Mom’s N73. It has two loudspeakers. Today (30.05.2011), I went to my office and proudly showed it to my friends. They were hypnotized with its looks and were very appreciative. I switched on the radio to show off. All in vain. The radio switched on. I immediately used the volume key to reduce the volume since I was at the office. Guess What? It HUNG in front of them! :-(

I told them, “It is just that I might have locked the keypad buttons someway, ”...just tried to get away their attention. Feeling awkward, I hid it in my trousers’ pocket. After around 20 minutes I felt very hot in my trousers’ pocket. I felt my pocket with my hands. It was this idiot phone that had turned very hot. It was damn hot; The battery, which was fully charged just 20 minutes ago, had completely drained off. The reason: While it hung, it did not turn off the radio.  Since this phone has an in-built antenna, it heated up in my pocket as it ‘felt’ choked. I said, it turned very very hot. After all, the heat energy penetrated through my trouser to my underpant and landed finally on my skin! DANGEROUS DESIGN.

Other drawbacks:

  1. I feel that this phone has a very very bad battery backup contrary to what was showcased in Star CJ Alive and nokia's website.

  2. Brightness Control - This is the first phone I have ever had that does not have brightness control feature. Who really cares to check the existence of such important & implicit features in embedded devices that run on limited power? How could NOKIA miss out a POWER MANAGEMENT feature? It appears like buying a car that gives a mileage of 2 km per litre of petrol and it misses feature of turning off its AC that is an overhead on the engine!

  3. Camera - Very nicely advertised as 5.0 MP. This is the WORST camera.

My SAMSUNG phone had a very good camera that was just 2.0 MP. There was no haziness in its shot and the contrast was very rich.

This is my last Nokia phone.

I think so much of bad experience in 24 hours of purchase is sufficent to advise you to avoid NOKIA. Please do not think that I might have bought a defective piece from an unreputed store. A good brand will have very strict testing & quality policies before marketing its product to consumers. And even if they by somehow happen to circulate defective pieces to consumers, they do announcements on their website. For example, I have a sony vaio laptop. The particular model that I had was fitted with a defective cooling fan in it. SONY declared 2 years of additional warranty on this model + they recalled these laptops to change their fans. I was one of those lucky customers and found this problem after 2 years of usage; got it replaced free of cost at SONY’s service centre.

UPDATE (1st June, 2011):

This is the third day. I found that the upper loudspeaker has all of a sudden showed up decreased sound volume & sound quality; while the lower loudspeaker continues its best performance. ANOTHER HARDWARE PROBLEM. Little better. At least 2 days it worked fine.

NOKIA IS A VERY CHEAP BRAND. IT DECEIVES CUSTOMERS.
