I am not going into the tech details, which are available in the Nokia site itself. I will just give the positives and negatives of the phone that I observed.

I am using the N95 without the 8GB :(. I bought it in Bangalore for INR32000, but now the prices are much lower.

Good things: The plastic case that comes with the phone is a very good idea. My phone has fallen many times and has not sufferred any damages. Also the screen guard that comes with the phone protects the screen very well. Dual slide is very useful, especially while viewing videos. Camera picture resolution and sharpness is good for on the fly photographs and I have not felt the need for a separate camera for day light photography and snaps of static objects. Video quality is very good and quiet useful if you want to shoot videos of sudden events (Ex: Unexpected happenings, naughty things that your child does ...etc). Also the sound recording in the videos is of good quality.

The phone display quality is good. 2 external speakers give good opportunity to listen to music loudly and also serves well in the loud speaker mode during the telephone calls. Music player is not comparable to ipod, but in the absence of it, the purpose is well served. I have tested the GPS and it works well, but only as long as your phone is under the open skies. Battery is good, requires charging once in 2 days, even if you use the camera (up to 30 minutes), music player (upto 1 hour) and talking (60 minutes) moderately. But in the areas of low signal strengths, the battery drains very fast. But there is an offline/aeroplane mode, to make the phone not connect to the network and this saves battery in areas of no/less signal. Good set of accesories are available (consider buying a usb charger (a cable tha can charge from ur computers usb port), if you use the phone a lot with your computer). I do not have 3G services here and so have not been able to test the 3G capabilities. WiFi, Bluetooth, IR all work fine. I have also not used many 3rd party applications. One word of caution, the red button does not cause most applications to exit and so you should explicitly close each application you open, otherwise, your battery will drain fast and also your phone will crash owing to memory overhead problems. Also regularly upgrade your phone firmware./software that are freely available from the nokia site for good performance (do not forget to back up).

Some areas of improvement:

  • Voice clarity could be better.

  • Camera is very slow. Not good for good quality photographs for moving objects. phone camera cannot be a substitute for a good digital camera.

  • music player could be better for the price of the phone

  • More memory (Ok Ok its there now)

  • A simple wired headset and mic, with out the additional controls...

  • The back up does not work properly with the calander entries when you do a software upgrade

By the by, I use only about 25% of the phone capabilities regularly...and am very happy :)
