Ok lads and lasses I have upgraded from me good ol T230 to the Nokia Ngage. Important thing here is that I have bought the original not the QD... ant my suggestion to all of u planning on buying the ngage is ... dont buy the QD I'll explain why later. Now what does the phone offer?...

A mobile gamin system that is by all means as good if not better than the Game Boy advance.

An MP3 player with a very good amplifier and functionality. It even has presets would u belive.

A movie player that can play almost any type of movie. The only thing u have to do is get the right software.

A great phone with super features (similar to 7650... only no camera) Blue Tooth connectivitiy.... u need to understand that blue tooth doesnt mean only wireless gaming, it signifies complete wireless freedom. BlueTooth is unconditional access to any other BT enabled device..no hassles. So if u have a PDA that is BT enabled then u can interact with it using ur Ngage.

The phone also accepts MMC cards upto 512 MB.. so u can store any data u like , be it games, software, songs movies etc on the MMC.

Now, for some more interesting aspects of the phone: The phone works with the Symbian OS. Yup it has its own operating system environment which means that as long as programmers are willing to code, ur phone has new features on the way. Just locate any Symbian 60 software .. this can be installed on ur phone.

The software currently available include, games,Movie players,MP3 players,Ebook readers, dictionarys, inbox relocators, file browsers and lots more.

Some must have software:

Smartmovie player: THis is a super alternative to the real player pre-installed in the phone. It uses the Xvid codec and can compress 20 minute videos to about 15 MB with great picture quality and 16KHz 16-256 KBPS sound stats.

Fexplorer: this is a file browser for ur Ngage.. just like windows explorer. Lets u access all parts of ur memory card and inbuilt memory. U can directly launch certain apps and u can cut, copy, paste, delete etc ... evrything ur used to doing using the mouse in windows.

Ultra MP3 ... this one is for all the QD users.. get urself the Ultra MP3 player to unleash MP3 music on ur system...but in MONO output :(

Now the reason why I asked u lot to get the old ngage and not the QD is cause QD has mono output and no dedicated MP3 mode... the original has great Stereo with Bass expansion.

QD has cramped keys and a hard 4 way PAD... the original has easy to use keys spread out over a larger area.

QD does not have FM radio nor does it have record function... the original has an FM tuner as well as a music recorder.. (from the radio or ur mic input).

The QD does not have USB cable support. ie in order to transfer data, u need to use Blue tooth or use a card reader... the original has a USB cable that comes budled with the phone and u can transfer data directly to the phone using the cable.

if these things dont bother u, then the QD offers a smaller more compact phone with the speaker in front (unlike the original which has speaker in the side.. 'side talking') . So u can talk into it like all other phones. Also the QD has a slot for the MMC card in the side. So u have easy access to the same. But in the original , the MMC is placed inside the phone(behind the panel) so in order to access it, u must open the back panel and remove the battery.

But thankfully if u buy a card about 256 MB or more then u will never have to remove the card again.

In the end, some things u need to keep in mind while using the ngage.

a) always install software on the MMC (it gives u an option while installing)

b)Always keep 3+ MB of inbuilt memory free. This is needed cause most of the installer packages need to unzip before running and theu do this in the inbuilt memory. SO if ur out of memory.. u screwed.

c) in order to free up inbuilt memory, use a small size pic as ur wall paper, dont enable unnecessary functions, shift all ur files from ur inbox to the MMC.

d) dont be perplexed by the software hanging. This can happen and has happened in almost every single phone ever made. Just open the panel, pop out the battery then put it back in.

e)register urself in Ngage forums and read all their HOW TO's and supprt threads so that u know exactly what ur doing.

f) if u have a new prob post it there, someone will definitly have a solution.

Ok thats all for now.. anything new comes up I'll post it as a reply. If anyone has questions do mail me , I'll try and help you out.
