I have a wireless router at home and I was in a great need for a WLAN supported phone. I Purchased Nokia E51 because of its features, price and nokia brand. Nokia E51 candy-bar runs Symbian operating system version 9.2 and is based on S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1. This phone is an entry level business phone. Now, my phone is 3 months old and right time to share my experience on the same.
Design:
It is like a candy-bar, very much slim and little bit heavy. Size-wise (114.8 x 46 x 12 mm).
KeyPad Design:
Besides the main keys, the * and 0 buttons also activate the phone's Bluetooth and Web browser, respectively. In addition, there's a dedicated key for muting calls, which is useful when the user needs to be excused for a moment during a conference call.
He keypad also contains some specific buttons such as: D-pad, two selection keys, Menu key, Calendar key, Contacts key, Messaging keys and, Call and End keys. Right under the D-pad, there is the Clear key, which also changed the logo from 'C' to one that looks like that on the Backspace keys of every PC.
Backside:
The back of the phone includes camera and metallic plate.Once accidentally, My phone fell from 5 feet height but nothing happened!!!.Initially, I felt that the screen size is very small to browse but Now I feel that the screen is good enough to view the web contents.
Due to extensive usage of side rubber buttons or due to my nails, side button rubber is getting eroded.
Features:
E51 provides 3G/HSDPA, HSCSD, WLAN, GPRS, EDGE, USB, BLUETOOTH, Infrared, Email Client, 2 MP camera and most of the others features which are common present on the nokia phone.I recently configured the email client through https://stage06.suw.hosting.nokia.com/. I get the gmail and yahoo mails in my email client rather than using the browser to view them.
Gallery is somewhat crazy (what I feel) to view the photos, so I use Resco Photo Viewer which is really handy and easy to view photos. I also upgraded the phone to latest firmware using the nokia software upgrade application. Now I don't have go to nokia care center to upgrade the firmware :).
Camera is really not worth for taking in-door photos without much light. It is good for taking outdoor photos. I feel that it would have been the best phone if E51 was with 3.2 Mp and a flash for the same price. one more cons is it doesn't have front camera which is useful for 3G video conf :(USB: The Phone never crashed, and it work seamlessly with PC Suite. So far so good. Battery can't be charged using the USB cable.
Music player. Without earpiece, it plays really loud and clear music. Battery life is also adequate and Talktime is around 4 hours. I use WLAN to great extent and thus it drains the battery too. I charge my phone every day and sometimes alternate days. Yet, There are lots of features supported to look in like maps :-) Overall, I rate the phone 9/10
