LDS, you wonder,what is that in the title? Well, that is why you like me will decide NEVER to buy a Nokia product in your life.
But first, the attempted seduction:
1:Yes, she's got the looks.The Nokia 7600 is a good combination of style and functionality.For a handset that some of my friends call an ashtray and I liken to a leaf, it has features that even its big brother,the Nokia 7610 don't.Things like IR transfer,and UMTS capability.Yes, this is the only phone that I know of that will work on Reliance as well as GSM networks in India.
2:She just became affordable.Although I purchased her at an outrageous price,she's now still a bit expensive at INR 10,000 at most outlets.(They will initiallyall qoute the Best Buy MRP of INR 14,500/- but haggle.)
3:She's power packed:Great Battery performance ,with a 10 hour standby in GSM networks.
4:Beauty and Brains:You can take pictures with its camera at 640 * 480 pixels. You can listen to MP3/AAC music , while taking pictures,or taking calls.You can also shoot short video clips,of bad quality.
5:Handome and Brawny:In a new sales package,the accessories include stereo headsets,CD software suite.
And here's the clincher why you will not only, NOT buy the Nokia 7600 but also no other Nokia product:
6:The Nokia 7600 like most other Nokia products is susceptible to a very serious condition called : LDS or The Liquid Damage Syndrome!And what that means nobody knows, but I advise you to head down to the nearest Nokia Care outlet to figure out what the phenomeon entails, with hundreds of sweaty and angry customers being told lies ranging from ''we don't fix your model here'' to ''Your handset may get destroyed while we fix it!'' or the more usual ''Sorry Sir,your handset is still being fixed''week, after week after weeks! When I went in to get malfunctioning Nokia 7600 fixed at a Nokia Care Center I was told that my handset could go dead during repairs after waiting for hours!.Speaks volumes about ''Care'',and there were hundreds of people arguing with HCL for Customer Disservice for products ranging from the new N91s,7710 widescreens to the older communicators etc.
So, go ahead and invest your thousands in a sleek sexy Nokia nymph,but once your handset gets LDS, (and even splashing rain can cause it as in my case!) be prepared for Nokia-HCL ''care'',which is anything but that!
The alternative, go for a simpler but more dependable phone from Siemens like the SX66 or the Z800, or any of the PDA phones, if you must.Say No to Nokia and save yourself from LDS.Even Nokia's CEO Jorma.Ollila@ nokia.com seems dumbfounded,for he has no explanations.As for me after over two months of waiting I'm still be shown any Nokia ''Care''!
