Folks, I am writing a review after a long time. But I had to post this for everyones benefit.

After a long debate over which phone to buy, I chose Nokia Prism 7500 over an E61i, mainly because of the price and the availability of better features, but occassionally I feel I have made a wrong choice. So, here goes my mind on this piece:

Package:

  1. Phone unit

  2. Charger (the thin pin model)

  3. Stereo ear-phones

  4. Leather hand-strap

  5. Satin/Velvet finish pouch

  6. New model Battery (BL-4B)

  7. 512 MB MicroSD Card

  8. Three coloured rings (for the phone)

  9. Manual

*Review of phone:

*The phone is uniquely crafted and is very controvertial in terms of attractiveness. While I just loved it, my wife wrinkles her face whenever I praise it. Not only at home, but I had a _lot_ of mixed (50:50) opinions about its attractiveness at office too. So, I suggest you first look at it before ordering one.

The screen is a _very_ big asset to the phone. It is a 2" LCD with 16M colours (while most of the other phones have a 256K color capability). What does this mean? It means great clarity for both pictures and videos.

The camera is another torch-bearer. At 2 Mega Pixel, it clicks really cool pics. But the downside is, it needs lots of light (preferably sunlight). I am uploading a few pics taken by this mobile to help you understand it better. It comes with an LED flash, which is a bare addition to it, but serves not much useful purpose. It has multiple modes and I loved the grayscale and sepia modes the best.

The memory is two fold. The phone has an in-built memory of about 40 MegaBytes, which is quite sufficient if you use it only as a basic phone (ofcourse having individual contact pics, tiny ring tones etc.). It also comes with a 512 MB Micro SD card that promises loads of storage for you.

Unfortunately, the card that I have suddenly stopped working in just about 25 days of purchase. I still have about 2 months more for replacement (while the phone carries a warranty of 1 yr, the memory card has a warranty of only 90 days). And the sadder part is that I cannot launch an online complaint regarding the same. I have to visit their service centre at Panjagutta (thats the only place where warrenties are honoured) to get a replacement and God knows when I'll get time for it.

The keypad is trendy, but not extremely comfortable. The navigation joystick could have been a beauty had it been a little more smooth and grippy. When your fingers are a little sweaty, the joystick tends to slip a lot. But overall, it is good.

Coming to the capabilities, the phone plays a good range of formats (mp3, aac, wmv etc). But I found some cheaper Nokia phones playing the same songs better and louder (maybe a bigger resistor is protecting the speaker). It has a fast-forward feature that is quite useful at times. FM reception is good and voice recording is decent.

Coming to the worst part, the talk time. On quite a few occasions, I have measured the talk time (by resetting the duration counters). I got anything between 60 to 90 minutes of pure talk time (with bluetooth, music, fm, video off). Some of these featuers like Bluetooth are big battery drainers so use them cautiously (esp. the BT profiles like A2DP etc).

This phone is based on Nokia OS and hence might not support things like Outlook, office etc.

Also, I would have been more happy if Nokia cared to supply a USB cable along with the kit. Ofcourse, the talk time is too bad (atleast for my usage levels). So, if you are an occasional talker and dont mind charging it everyday, then dont hesitate, with the other features being pretty decent, this phone is a steal for its price.

Have fun.

Harsha.
