Want a Nokia and a slim phone as well… not possible said the store owner when I last bought my Nokia 6233. . But! Why a Nokia only?    Well the guys who started using a mobile phone in 1999 or 2000 might have started with a Nokia 5110(The heavy black brick) and since then your fingers and your attitude is mingled to Nokia way. The largest seller of Mobile phones in the world has been accused of big clunky designs compared to its competitors who have changed the paradigm in phones from just features, to forms. Samsung’s X820, LG’s SH110/KG920, Fly’s 2040, Motorola’s L6 are already rulling the market.

Here is a review for those who want a Nokia and a slim cell phone too. The 6300 is the slimmest Nokia phone ever at 13.1 mm.

The first thing that you may notice about the phone is the dominant 16 million color high resolution color screen. It is one of the best screens that we have ever seen in a phone. Be it taking photographs or simple browsing, the screen is an absolute delight to work on.  The build quality and finishing is excellent with an innovative Sliding phone cover. The four buttons around the D-pad may look small, but the green and red indicators are extremely attractive and  user friendly. The volume button at the right of the screen is a good thing for ease of use.

The phone uses a standard min-USB port for data and a 2.5mm port for audio. We will expect all future versions of Nokia phone to come to same standards with 2.5mm audio slot and a mini USB port. While connecting the PC, the menu gives you an option of either connecting the phone for data transfer as a USB. A 128 MB upgradable MicroSD card comes with the pack. The phone sports a 2-megapixel unit which produces high quality images of 1600 x 1200 still and 176 x 144 movie modes. In comparison to other phones in the slim category, it does quite well in this department. Music player is okay kind with support for ID3 tags and a no-nonsense interface. You can even use the phone in its Flight mode (A snap taken from flight is shown here) for listening to music. The phone comes bundled with the usual converter software and Opera Mini for browsing the Internet.

What we miss though is a dedicated camera button. Opening USB connection cover can be quite a task as well although it fits the slot with good finish. The USB interface cable does not come bundled. A clear negative aspect. Nokia should do something about the battery life. A high resolution screen could be the reason for more battery usage. The sound levels for audio player and FM are a bit low when compared to other phones. Ideally it should have been a bit louder.

Final Words: With the slim form factor the Nokia 6300 is a hot product in the market. It is surely a much awaited model for Nokia lovers. Barring small shortcomings as mentioned above, it has all the qualities to ROCK.
