I bought the Nokia 6235 in August 2006. It served the purpose of its purchase from day one. It has an excellent battery back up...one that has never failed me. It has exceptional reception and features that a tech novice like me, finds too complicated to be put to good use... Nevertheless, the handset and I had become virtually inseperable.

But I am writing this review solely because I discovered a fabulous facet to this handset. It is DURABLE. And I can prove it.

Oh...before I begin the review I must warn the reader to desist from asking the following questions:

  1. What was the phone doing on my lap?

  2. Why don't I have BACK UP?

  3. Who is lucky here? The phone or the owner?

One evening, on a really crowded street in Pune, I swerved my car into the only available parking spot, congratulating myself on the feat and my luck ofcourse. I opened the door and off slipped my Nokia, from my lap. As I removed my sunglasses to have a better look at the fallen phone, to my horror I realised that it had fallen into a puddle of murky water. Yep....the only puddle on the entire stretch.....

There was no parking attendant visible. Even though my little phone lay head down in the puddle, I contemplated for a full minute before fishing it out with my fingers. (Yes...fingers....eeeeekkkksss!)

Reaching out for a pack of tissues in my car, I wiped it clean. The phone was lifeless. I tried to switch it 'ON'...once...and gave up for fear of causing more damage. Rushed the instrument to the nearest Nokia Care Center, where they declared my handset DEAD. The personnel at the Center were not very optimistic about "water damaged" equipments.

I was extremely heartbroken. Not just because I had caused what seemed to be irreparable damage to the phone, but also because I'd been using my handphone like a directory, noting down virtually all important or unimportant numbers and info in it. It was my alarm clock, my organiser, my calendar, my reminder, my internet connection, even serving as entertainment for my restless kids in Airport Lounges and restaurants..... Boy..was I going to miss it...

While I pondered over the ghastly manner in which my phone "died", the 24 hour deadline given by the Service Center had elapsed. I called them to enquire about the status of the handset. I was overjoyed to hear that it was working "ok" and I could collect it asap.

Got it back that very evening. Inspite of its "near death" experience, the phone is not scarred for life. Barring a few moisture spots on the display which the Center guys say will fade away in time, the phone bears no tell tale marks of its ordeal.

I have owned several phones prior to this one... Motorola, Sony Ericcson, Samsung.... But Nokia has left me spell bound.... The fact that my handset was brought back from the dead in exactly 24 hours has turned me into a Nokia consumer for life....

Thus I say... Hail Nokia!
