Stylish and Classy Phone . Review on Nokia 6100

Hello Folks,

I am back, writing about the phone which I wanted to own for quite sometime and had the chance to buy it on 14th Nov. I was owning a Nokia 3100 for about 6 months now which I bought for Rs. 4700/- that time. It was a very good fone and served my purpose very well. I use the cell only for making calls, sms and appointments. I dont even the use the GPRS feature. So it was ok for my use. I always wanted to own a 6100 since the time the phone was Rs. 10500/- but did not go for it as it was too costly at that time.

But by the time I decided to go for it the manufacturing had stopped. Dejected I settled for the 3100. It is also a good fone but the looks of the fone is plasticky and very girlish. After searching a lot in the entire South Bangalore, I found one guy who had the 6100 in Light Blue color as given in the photo above. I bought this phone for Rs. 5600/- including tax and one year national warranty.

Now for the phone itself. Its a very classy phone and a stylish one at that. It is the slimmest phone from the nokia factory till date and is a wonder to hold and use. The design of the phone is such that it fits snugly into your hand while talking and does not feel out of place or bulky or too small. Even to hold the fone in your hand is a treat. I found it very very well designed. The user interface is essentially the same as 3100 and 6610. No changes here. The only feature which I found in this fone and a very useful one is the wallet feature which was absent in 3100 and I dont know about 6610. But it is a very good feature. Rest of the technicalities can be found on the official nokia site. So I wont go into the details here. I will focus mainly on the user experience !!!

I found the phone very easy to use. The looks are very decent and sexy. Not girly at all. Very professional and it oozes class. The display of 4096 colors is quite manageable for the price of this fone. Signal reception is the best in class as it can catch the signals even in lifts and basements. I have a Hutch connection and people in Bangalore know very well that they are still improving their reception quality. But this fone just catches the signal like a breeze.

One more thing the readers would like to know would be the voice clarity and the loudspeaker option. The clarity is crystal clear on the handset and you can hear the other person speak even in heavy traffic. On the other hand I feel loudspeaker on the 3100 is better than the one in this fone. Its very fuzzy and not all that clear, but still manageable.

Battery backup is the other thing which will be a decider for most of the people out there. The phone boasts of a 6 hour talk time and I have been able to talk upto 4 hours without having to charge the battery. The charging time is also very less of 1.5 hours which is very convenient and helpful in times of crisis. The stand-by time of the fone is 2 days with quite a number of calls and upto 50 sms a day (My usage, might be more but for users who use sms sparingly and dont get a lot of calls standby time will be much more).

But the phone has its cons as well. Firstly the key pad which looks really cool with a blue color back light is very hard and taxing on your fingers. You need to press them real hard at times and sometimes they are activated by just a touch. So I think it is the angle at which you press the keys which make a difference.

Next, the display flickers a lot when the back light goes off after you read a sms or finish a call. The phone is also slow when compared to 3100 as it takes a tad second more for it open the menus and other options. Apart from these cons I dont find any others and I have decided on this after consulting people who have been using this phone for a long time.

The best part of the fone is that it is not very common like 3100, 6610, 6600 (i never liked the fone for its bulkiness) or the other common fones of today. It is very rarely found with a few people.

If you want to buy this fone make it fast as this fone is now branded as the Authorised Nokia Dealers Model and is only available at very few outlets. I would recommend this fone for people who use a cell for its basic function of calls, messages and reminders. Oh ya I forgot about the infra red in the phone. The infra red works very well in this fone and makes up for the absence of blue tooth. So guys and galz if you really wanna be special from the crowd and want a slim and sexy cell with all the good features mentioned above then go for this cell blindfolded.
