Nokia 6030: Mobile review

Well, couldn't stop from reviewing this mobile after seeing my friend use for the last 1 month. Intend to put up some comparisons between this mobile and Samsung C230, which I bought almost 2 months ago.

First the specs of 6030: 65K display, 90 gms, Dual band, 250 size phonebook, 3MB shared memory, No IR port, built-in hands-free and talk time of 3 Hrs.

Accessories: Tavel charger, hands-free

Handset: The handset has a very simple look (sometimes it looks like an old time remote control). The buttons are large and ver convenient to use. The navigation is as easy as in any other Nokia hand set. The ringtones are the standard nokia ones. One can set Vibration, Melody or Melody+Vibration. Unlike the mototonic ringtones from earlier models of nokia, this handset has an ascending volume of ringtone. So the first 1-2 rings will be of lower volume, and then we hear the full volume. The wallpapers are quite dull, although one can download some new ones to color up your mobile. Also there are features of themes that one can set for the handset. In addition, there is an option of changing colors (6 in all) of the highlight bars. Another interesting feature is the option to configure the right and left navigation keys to whatever we want.

Display: The display is 65K colors, and this is the first mobile from Nokia that comes with so many colors for close to INR 5300. But the display is not as bright as handsets from other companies available for the same price.

Connectivity: Does not have IR. Also, there is not much information available about the data cable that fits into this handset. One can always configure GPRS (class 6) and download stuff they want.

FM quality: FM is mono, so the quality if not very good. But, it definitely is good to have FM.

Battery Life: This is one great thing about the handset. The quoted life is 180 minutes, and have heard of my friends using it for close to 2 and a half hours after one full charge cycle.

Comparison with Samsung C230: Display, this is one place where not many can compete with Samsung. Both Nokia 6030 and Samsung C230 have 65K colors, but the quality of C230 display is far better than 6030. This could be due to UFB displays used in Samsung handsets and CSTN displays used in Nokia ones. The FM in C230 is stero, while that in 6030 is oly mono, so the quality if lot better in C230. Look wise too, Samsung is much better than 6030. Battery life, this is one place where Nokia outmatches Samsung by atleast 1.5 times. While Samsung gives close to 60-75 mins of talktime, Nokia has a minimum of 120 minutes under almost same signal strength conditions. 6030 weighs about 20gms more than C230, but if someone has used very old models may not find the difference. Since I have been using C230 (70gms), when I hold 6030 (90gms) I can feel the difference. The phone book of C230 is 4 times that of 6030.

Conclusions: If one is looking for a simple mobile phone with good features (high talk-time, 65K colors, FM), then Nokia 6030 is definitely an option one should consider.
