I bought this phone when it was launched. The problems I have faced so far..ALL Nokia 5800 phones have the earpiece speaker problem stated below. This is a faulty product line from the Nokia stable.
The ear piece speaker is pretty bad. On a call, the volume of the ear piece speaker would drop to a very low level, which made hearing the other person impossible. This became a constant problem. I faced this problem in the first two weeks itself. I got the phone replaced, but again 4 weeks later the new phone has the same problem. The phone has FAILED on this critical element, what is the use of the phone if you cannot listen to the other party on the line.
In the maps feature, the satellite terrain photos do NOT come up. All one sees is a green background. Satellite Mapping is missing. Also, the new Bangalore International Airport is NOT mapped at all, even in the navigation part. Imagine losing out on such a large and important location on the maps and navigation.
Sometimes when you switch to the camera mode the screen goes black and asks you to reboot the phone.
The phone is very plasticy, especially the back cover is very thin, and the hooks on the back cover are very delicate. Putting the back cover on is a tricky issue, god forbid if you break the hooks, you had it.
If you end an incoming call, the phone screen goes black immediately and you cannot see the talk time.
Many times, when you want to play videos recorded by you, the video player gets stuck and does not play the video, but the sound of the video plays.
Though the phone has a 3.2 megapixel Carl Zeiss lens, night time photos are pretty bad. They are quite snowy.
When you type an SMS and want to send it to someone on your contact list, and if you want to see the phone number of that contact, you cannot see it.
The camera in the front cannot be used or accessed. It is a total waste.
The GPS is slow.
There are no applications loaded on the phone, just two games. I would have liked to see some nice applications loaded on the phone.
If you call the Nokia helpline on the Bangalore number, they are not knowledgeable to handle your queries. They are a useless bunch of people at the call center, who have NO product knowledge or the ability to resolve issues. They know how to irritate the hell out of you.
The user manual that comes with the phone is not detailed and is mostly useless. You are left to figure out the working of the phone for most part on your own.
Using the touch screen leaves finger prints on the phone. When the screen goes black, one can see the finger prints on the screen and the smears, it's ugly. I have to rub the phone on my shirt to get a clean look.
Over a period of time dust, dirt and grime accumulate on the screen edges of the phone.
Unlike the iphone where the touch screen is made of glass, the touch screen on this phone is made of plastic.
The phone comes in two ugly colors dirty red and dirty blue.
Writing SMS messages with cut finger nails is tough on the touch screen (especially for men), as the space taken by fingers is more than the space alloted to alphabets on the touch screen, so you get a lot of spelling mistakes, as adjacent letters get depressed too during typing. Women with long finger nails may find it easier to type. For men, I guess the best option is to use the stylus.
The themes, wallpapers and other graphics that come with the phone are limited and crappy.
If you are outdoors, it is very difficult, if not impossible to see the screen under bright sunlight.
If you hold the phone in your hand, at times, the motion sensor kicks in, and it delays the screen going live as it aligns to landscape format. This slows down the whole process of making calls or receving calls as the soft keys change their location.
Welcome to the world of NOKIA. NO for NO KIA. I got a call from No kia customer service (080 425 43333) to inquire if I am happy with the device. I told them it is a crap device and gave them detailed feedback. They told me they cannot do anything about it and hung up. Wow, now even NO KIA marketing and sales people solicit positive feedback ONLY.
They hang up on you if you give negative feedback. Please can NOKIA people step up to the plate and REACH out to their users. Please NOKIA stop hiding and playing games on market surveys. I am totally unsatisfied with this phone. I would call it a "ibrick". I am trying to get a complete refund for this phone. This phone sucks big time.
