NEW POST - do scroll down to read the old one too, that I wrote few months ago. I purchased a Nokia 5800 on 24 January 2009 in Pune and have been facing problems ever since.

  1. Within 2 weeks of purchase, the earpiece was not functioning well. I took the handset to Akshay Telecom, FC Road, Pune and they repaired the earpiece. However, after the phone was opened, I noted dust particles in the display, and same can be seen till date. Earpiece problem has been a worldwide problem

  2. The Nokia maps license simply "disappeared". Note that I was supposed to get 90 days free licence. I made over 50 calls, registered complaints (i have call reference numbers 2-3QWR71, 2-3RDU7L, 2 2-3RSLYD and 1-6912363409). Nokia contacted me and gave me a 1 month licence (no CD 6114 8134 8726) till the time they were investigating the issue. However, no-one contacted me till date.

  3. Since a week, I have display problems. - fuzzy lines seen (this problem is worldwide -

I called Nokia care with the above concern and they told me it seems to be a display problem, and it takes 1 month for parts to come in and complaint be closed

Will someone please advise me what to do. I want NOKIA to REPLACE the phone. Please let me know how I can get this issue resolved amicably without court case. How can I keep my case strong?

In good countries, nokia has replaced the phone, whereas here in India, we customers are treated like crap... so please do help me out....

Thanks

Dr. Singh

OLD POST

I agree to most of reviews here about 5800 not being good - just goto dailymobile.se and see Nokia 5800 failing worldwide!!

I was waiting eagerly for this phone as I wanted a good mix of utilities like GPS, music and a good touch-screen device. However, I think it was not worth it because of following reasons!

#1. My earpiece had probs - had to get it replaced. Users worldwide have a problem

#2. GPS license sinply got lost, even cannot updated. Everytime I call the supoort, there a new ID is given - since 1 month, no one is looking into problem - call centre guys are of no help: one month and no resolution :-(

#3 Phone is too too slow. If you goto dailymobile forum, there is a link given where someone has compared phones. 5800 is upto about 40% slower than some other nokia products and other contemporaty phones

#4 Themes are boring, ringtones are monotonous.

#5 - I have to clean with "colin" everyday - else screen shows grime, oil and dust

#6 - when I took phone for earpiece problem, the Nokia care guys opened the phone to repair the same. Since then, I can see some dust inside display panels.. very frustrating. I asked Nokia for replacement, they wont listen

However, good part - look & feel, I like touchscreen as a better interface, customizable equalizer. But its not worth it for all the trouble and for the "worthless" treatment given by Nokia Customer Care

NOTE: I discovered one way of getting call centre guys in action - I ask them to connect me to customer satisfaction survey, in which I will give a BIG ZERO to them!! They really get scared. I then argue with them that they are trained with call escalation, and they are not addressing my problem correctly- In the end I do give them a big ZERO and also input in IVRS that I have called approx 12 times with problem - these figures are not exaggerated at all and are true

I will NEVER recommend 5800 to a friend, I think blackberry storm is anyday better. I feel I wasted my hard-earned money. Please do not buy!
