My experience with this phone has been for past 3.5 years and with that I have witnessed every good and bad thing with this beast. It was launched somewhere in 2009, all I could remember. Had a bunch of great features which attracted a greater mass and was a great flagship for that moment.
Ok now coming onto my story with this thing so I noticed the following:-
At first glance, the only thing that gives you a hint that the 5800 belongs to Nokia’s music series is the upper end of the front body, which is dominated almost thoroughly by the screen and there is a less amount of bezel as compared to other models of the same company earlier launched, making it pretty different from previous XpressMusic phones. As I spent some time holding this however, the feeling reminded me of my past device Nokia 5220 XpressMusic. The body is of plastic which is indeed glossy on the edges. I didn’t like the material very much, as it gives the impression of something fragile. Don’t get me wrong, it looks good anyhow, only the material used is not upto the mark.
The display is brighter and has higher contrast as compared to other resistive touchscreen phones. However, if you expose it to direct sunlight, the images gets almost washed away, which is a pity, keeping in mind the previous 16 million color Nokia phones didn’t suffer from the very issue. Moreover, it becomes a fingerprint mess when you use it for a prolong period of time, and since a cloth for cleaning it isn’t included in the box, I warmly recommend that you should have one with you always. Who know when you need it.
There was an USP of this thing which was not included in any other symbian phone correcting myself in any touchscreen symbian which was 3G video calling. It was intitally launched with this very phone making that a core competence over other phones of this range. It gave me immense pleasure using it, although there were less of resources to use 3G in 2009 in Inda, but anyhow I got hands to that and enjoyed every bit of it.
