I was searching for a replacement of my 3 year old Sony ericcson K750i (a truly master piece!)for quite some time now. I was very happy with my K750i and wanted a mobile phone which would provide even better experience. This time I wanted a touch screen mobile mainly because of their large screens for better photo and video viewing. I wanted another Sony ericsson, but they did not have many choices in touch screen mobiles in medium price range. After a lot of research on internet I decided for 5800, but after seeing it personally, its design didn't appeal me much. Then I came to know about 5530 XM, and after seeing it in the store, I really liked it and decided to buy immediately.

It has been around 4 weeks, since I am using it, so let me share my experience with you guys..

  1. This phone has stunning looks. Its cute, sexy, slim and perfectly fits in the pocket ...

  2. Touch screen is gorgeous! Its vibrant and crystal clear... Though bad in direct sunlight..(For those who use their mobile

phone outdoors often, please check before you decide to buy one.). Videos looks awesome!

  1. I was little bit afraid about software stability of Nokia Symbian phones as one of my friends had N73, and its software gave a lot of trouble to him... I must say, Symbian OS has improved a great deal since then. 5530 XM software is very stable. Never had any crash/hang issues whatsoever... I have installed a lot of softwares/games on it and still going rock solid!

  2. Music player is nice and sound quality is decent..(I am no expert in music quality analysis, but good enough for me). Although supplied ear piece are of decent quality, but I recommend some better quality headsets to have great music experience. I also tried bluetooth headsets and they connected without any hassles and sound quality was great!

  3. Wifi works great and without any hassles! very simple to activate and connect. Internet browsing was seamless. I have downloaded youtube client on it, and watching internet videos is just great!

  4. User interface is good touch screen response is very good (I feel its better than 5800 XM, as I also tried on 5800 a couple of times). I never used any touch screen phones before, still getting used to with one was a  matter of few hours.

  5. Smart phone capabilities are good. I have installed many software on it and they add great value to the overall experience. I recommend to install Opera Mobile (not Opera Mini) to have great internet browsing experience.

Now coming to the bad parts about this phone:

  1. Camera is average... way below than my age old K750i's 2MP camera. Very disappointed...Video although have dvd resolution, but real crap. I was surprised to compare camera quality of 5800 (which do have "carl zeiss" optics!) and I found 5530 camera better than 5800 (specially in low light)! Hmm it looks like nokia just sells brand "carl zeiss" with no value at all.

  2. Touch buttons (I am not talking about the touch screen, but  the buttons for menu/calls which are below the screen with green/red lights) are nice for the  design but very poor in response... never sure when will they respond. They have roughly 50% hit ratio...

  3. Battery life is poor. It lasts only 1 day with moderate usage...

  4. All the photos and videos are shown as a single folder. No option of viewing pics in a particular folder. That's ridiculous and very cumbersome specially if you have huge number of pics and wanted to view few specific pics...(Or If you are showing some pics to someone, and don't want him to see your other personal pics ;) )

  5. Max volume (both earpiece and external speakers) is some what low but very clear sound, it is adequate for me. Though some may have issue with it.. kindly check before you buy.

Overall, I am very much satisfied with my 5530 XM and would certainly recommend to those who wants a smart phone with a great looks in a budget of around 10-11k.
