I’ll not be presenting facts and figures about this phone, you can definitely get those in the Nokia website…I’ll tell you something from a user point of view.
Most people ask me, why I didn’t go for the 5800, and well guys…here’s why-
I didn’t like the feel of that 5800. Sure it has a bigger display screen, but do u really need that bigger display? And speaking of bigger displays…I think apple iPhone is one of those phones where that bigger display has been used to its potential! Nokia 5800 has a big display, but to use them, it has bigger icons!.and I personally felt that if u have more space on the display, better use it for adding more info…not to make icons big. its like going back to the 90’s!
5530 has a smaller screen(2.9”), but the icon sizes are apt for it. 5800 is like acordless phone to me….and I feel it was made in a hurry to regain some market lost to touch screen phones.and alter nokia develoed on its 5800 to make this 5530.
It also has a major+ point: Resistive touch screen. For those of you who want to know what that means, search it on the Wikipedia, they have good illustrations. Operationally, if u want to scroll music or contacts, or messages….u don’t need to use the side bar…u can just push the current page up and the screen starts scrolling down. I wish I could show you how that works, but its pretty good. I always tell people that Technology has to be more natural… and this scrolling of the page, when u push/slide ur thoumb on the screen…makes the touch experience more natural.
That helps in goggle maps too.resistive touch screen.
I was also looking at those Samsung star phones 2 as an alternative for cheaper touch screens, but once I got a hands-on experience on those models…I was so relieved, I had used it before even considering buying it. Samsung really has to develop its user interface. and fast too. Likes of blackberry, apple are already destroying the nokia market if they don’t come with something less “childish” for their GUI. They are a gonner!
Another point where I got bowled out is the size and shape of this 5530 phone. Its got a stainless steel front body finish, a rather weak looking back.and can feel flimsy. It is smaller, and easily slips into my pocket.and sound quality is excellent. I would recommend u buying another set of good head phones(I use Creative head sets). Though they supply noise reduction ear phones but its killing the music.
I 1st thought this phone has a real bad sound quality before I tried my other music player’s ear phone. and I haven’t gone back to my music player in a while now. They could’ve developed the Music player interface though. Its d same as in previous xpress music phones. It has a 3.2 megapixel camera, pretty standard. U wont shoot a mona lisa from it and they have removed the Carl Zeiss from it too.
Pricing Ive heard is around Rs 14k which is not justified. I would suggest you wait for the prices to drop further to around 12k or less. OR go for a grey makert phone. I bought it from UK for around Rs 10k equivalent. And I have checked it’s available for around 11k in Indian black market.
If nokia is being stupid and asking you to pay more….well, u have the answer in terms of black market!.or maybe grey if u are a little liberal.
