I had been using a Nokia 6600 for 2 years and decided to change as I wanted something sexy and a bit loud.
In August 2007 I started exploring various sites in the Net and finally purchased Nokia 5300 Xpress Music Phone - FULL BLACK for Rs. 7400/=.
The Nokia 5300 is a slide phone and it slides up & down with one hand. Its Mid section is covered with a rubber strip. The phone has a display measures 2 inches (320x240 pixels) and supports 262, 144 colors.. The Menu system is quiet simple and easy to operate. Even though you can't alter the brightness, the display is plenty bright as it is.
On the immediate left side of the display are music controls that give easy access to the music player. You can play, pause, fast-forward, and rewind your tracks. . On the right side of the bottom half of the slider is a volume key and the camera clicker. The Nokia 5300's design give it a camera-like feel when you hold the phone horizontally with the shutter control facing up. The camera lens is on the back of the phone, with a self-portrait mirror, The infrared port sits on the right side, while the power control and ports for the mini-USB cable and the charger rest on the phone's top end. Finally, the headset jack is in the top-left corner. The Micro SD card can be accessed only after you remove the battery cover . But you don't have to remove the battery .
There is a lot to talk of the Nokia 5300 features but not enough space to write. So I am writing the Main points only
There's a large 1, 000-contact phone book with room in each entry for five phone numbers plus a PTT number, e-mail and Web addresses, a job title and a company name, work and home addresses, a birth date, a nickname, a formal name. The phone also has vibrate mode, stopwatch, countdown timer, calculator, calender, alarm clock etc., It also has bluetooth with stereo profile, infrared port, a mini USB port for connection to PC. Though the Phone supports Mirco SD cards upto 2 GB, it comes with a bundle of 256 MB card.
The Music Player of 5300 is just like Big-B. It is easy to tranfer files to phone through the USB and it supports MP3, AAC, AAC+ AND WMA FILES. The 5300 also has a media player on which I have played 3gp files
The 5300 has a good 1.3 MP Camera that takes decent pictures starting from 1280 x 1024 to 160 x 120 res. The camera takes around 2 seconds to click. So don’t try moving pictures.
The camcorder shoots 3GPP videos in two resolutions (176x144 and 129x96) with sound.
You can personalize the 5300 with a large variety of screensavers, wallpapers, themes, color styles, animations, and sounds. It also has games like Snake III, Pro Snowboard, and Music Guess . One can download themes, wallpapers, ringtones and everything else. Just keep in mind the version of the phone (ie) Series 40 3rd edition while downloading these goodies otherwise they will not be compatible and wont execute
Music quality of the Nokia 5300 is excellent and a step above most music phones. The stereo speakers put out sharp, clear sound with much more volume than voice calls. Music also sounded great over the wired headphones.
The Nokia 5300 takes around 2 Hours and 30 Minutes to charge from Empty to full and is giving me around 2 days of usage on 5-6 calls of 3 Minutes / 4-5 Messages / 60 Minutes of Music per day.
For price of Rs. 7400 it is a great combination of Style, Music & of course a phone.
