Hel-low - (snort), this is Ernestine.

Sorry! I just had to put that in.

What I'm writing about is my cell phone. Gee! And here you thought I was going to write about cabbage! Oh well, at least my phone doesn't smell!

(Don't misunderstand me, I like cabbage, but it does smell!)

Oh, yeah, back to my phone. Guess I can get a bit distracted. Oh well, what can you do?

Do? Oh, yeah, do..... I can answer my phone. Be right back!

Well, that was easy. Now on to business!

Since I'd been using the now defunct Cellular One Cell Service for quite some time, one of their latest promotions was to offer a new phone with the signing of their last contract (before selling out to AT&T). Being happy with their service and needing a new phone, I didn't hesitate.

The phone I received was the Nokia 5160.

Upon reading the manual, I learned that the small antenna located at the top, doesn't pull out like my old phone. This little gadget works better than the old and since it's stationery, it's won't snap off as easily. To test out its clarity, I called my mom who is more than 1300 miles away and she sounded like she was sitting right next to me.

This little piece of electronic communications device is a piece of cake to use. It stores more phone numbers than I have family and friends. Just press the button for ''phone book'' and search for that name. Once it's on the screen, press the button again and it automatically dials the number. Area code included!

The memory mode contains a call log which will record all the call made and received and how long each call lasted.

In addition to these great features are two of my favorites: return call dialing and the alarm clock.

The return call dialer is there in case you miss a call. The number will register and then you just press a button and ZIPPO! the number is dialed for you!

The alarm clock comes in so handy when I'm traveling north to see the grandkids. I don't have to worry about the motels on Route 95 having a working clock! My phone does just fine and the alarm is loud enough to wake even my deeper-sleeping hubby.

There is a feature, however, that I haven't used and more than likely, won't, but it's there for those who have more time on their hands than I do. It's the ''game'' feature. From what I've checked out, there are three: memory, snake and logic. How do they work? Honestly, I tried them once to see what they were about, and now, don't remember. (Oh well, call it a senior moment!)

While there are many cell phones on the market that might better suit the needs of others, my Nokia 5160 is perfect for me. It does everything I would want a phone to do.

Do? did I say do? Oh yeah! I remember now, I was going to do ........... uh, wait, what was that again?

Oh darn! Another senior moment!
