Nokia 3200

In the month of April I began a hunt for a new mobile phone for my Mother….in the price range of Rs.10000/-. My search took me to a lot of sites and checked out all the models available in that price segment. But then made that decision to stick to Nokia. I myself own the Nokia 6610 (read my review on the same)

So Nokia was the decided brand. Now to look for the handset. I zeroed down to 6610, 3100 and the 3200.

6610 was out, because I owned it and wanted to try out some other cell for a change. So the last choices were 3100 and the 3200. Thought the 3100 was good and would have suited my Mom, but decided on the 3200 for just one reason…it had a Camera and was available for the same price as a 6610.

Looks:

This model has a transparent body with a 3d design paper providing the covering from the inside. Remove the paper and “Sab Kuch Dikhta Hai”. This is good and bad.

Bad because it looks too funky or junkie kind of a phone, but then on the flip side you could make your own designs and have it for a cover. For this reason there is a paper cutter provided which makes the whole process simple, very simple.

Functionality:

Functions wise it has all the function that comes with the 6610 and with the addition of a camera also a voice recorder that records snippets of up to 1 Minute each.

The Camera gives pictures in Standard and Night modes and also has a self timer.

Recordings made through the voice recorder can be set as a ring tone.

For all the above pictures and ring tone to be saved it has a memory capacity of 1 MB something that was missing in the 6610.

It has a built in Stereo Radio.

It has also got GPRS, MMS capabilities and can be connected to your PC through IrDA ports.

It does have 16 bit polyphonic ring tones but additional support for the same is not available.

The major issue here is it battery capacity. For some reason the phone does not stand more than 2 days. If you use the camera even for a little time the battery life comes down to 1 day. This I have checked with my friend who has confirmed that it is the same with his 3200 also.

Another major flaw is the keypad. Very hard and difficult to operate. Need some time to adjust. The alphabets and numbers are on 6 keys only. It is divided into top half and lower half. So one key can type out 6 characters and 2 numbers. So accessibility becomes a little difficult.

Wont necessarily recommend to anyone, but only for the camera if your are getting it for Rs 10000 like I did.

Arun
