The days of Consumer Bonanzas are really quite here and now.

Just a couple of years back a consumer had to make a compromise purchase and let go just a little more features due to constraints of his budget.

In came Motorola introducing feature packed budget phones - it's SLVR series, at almost entry level prices, and heralded the slip lines. LG followed suite.

Stalwarts NOKIA, Sony Erricsson whose market shares started taking a huge beating had to climb down their snobbish ivory towers and start wooing consumers. So when I was looking for a phone to gift my mother I found a great product in the NOKIA 2600 classic.

To start with, it has an exquisite sleek form very comfortable to hold and Looks that stand out of display stands. The phone comes in a black and dark blue cover with another copper-orange changeable cover supplied free.

The changing of covers is a quite a flimsy process, be very careful to handle the change delicately.

The 128 x 160 pixels 65 K TFT Display is bright and clear with colours appearing quite crisp and clear.

The Menu looks similar to the more recent midrange Nokia Mobiles like 6233 etc.

Although FM had already become a part of the budget NOKIA handsets over a few years now, this is probably the first time when Nokia brings in Bluetooth, voice recorder and a VGA camera!

Whew, wow… So we have  20 Station FM Radio with stereo headphones supplied+ VGA Camera( still & video)+ TFT Display(128x160)+ Voice Recorder+ Bluetooth+ GPRS with edge(Edge for downloads only). Loads of features isn't it?

Take a Quick look at other features:

Phonebook > 1000 entries> Business card feature just like NOKIA 6233 > photo call > Groups > speed dialing.

SMS > Text > MMS> to groups > email Service mssg etc. Call Features > Latest features as in any mid range phone. Gallery > same file management as in mid range phones. Themes > a number of attractive preset themes are already their and imp. the display reproduces them very well. In short for any one having used a midrange Nokia like 6300 or 6233 etc. will find the usage almost similar.

Bluetooth transacts well with phones. At least it did with my Nokia 6233.

Take a quick look at the Limitations:

  1. Memory on board is limited to 10 MB and there is no card slot for expansion.

  2. No media player to listen to MP3 songs. But you can assign MP3 ring tones.

  3. No USB support. So you have to use Bluetooth for transfers. There is no software CD supplied so you have to download from the NOKIA support site to see if it works. I haven’t used it as yet.

Summary:

The Nokia 2600 Classic is a budget phone you begin to like instantly. It has a lovely form, good display and great features. It's like coming out well satiated from a well devised and served mini meal.

Plus the feeling of having got value for your last paisa is simply towering.

My Purchase price: Rs. 3075/- which includes - Handset Battery 870mAh BL-5BT Battery Charger Stereo Headset Extra changeable cover Manual.
