Nokia Nokia Nokia. These days everywhere I go (in India atleast) it is some new innovative design or product by Nokia (in the cellphone range). The simplicity that Nokia has always offered in its range of phones is what takes the heat away from the competition. I got this Nokia nearly a month back and this has been a change of sorts as I was using Nokia 6630 for some time now (would review that later). The movement from Symbian back to Java was a welcome change as I dont exactly enjoy slow response speeds (which is distinct in Symbian on Nokia 6630). I needed a phone which was practical, satisfied my speed requirement when sending SMS, had a good reception and also give me a good battery backup. All these features were found in this phone which is an upgrade on the earlier 1100.

A glance at Nokia 1110 and you are assured that the handset is robust and can withstand the test of time. The cellphone keys are placed firmly on the main unit and there is no flimsy feeling while handling the handset. Sending SMS or calling up anybody is a breeze. The screen looks a bit from the medieval age :) . When we were kids we had these cute little LED watches and this phone display actually looks like that. But kudos to Nokia that it still take care of the lower segment of phones so well compared to maybe a Motorola or Sony Ericsson. The battery backup (realtime tests) lasts me for 5 days on moderate usage and 3 and half days on heavy usage! This is where Nokia 1110 actually hogs the limelight plus the space for all the contacts you can ever store (200 contacts!). Plus storage of SMS (works out to nearly 100 if you have good SIM capacity). Plus the provision of automatically managing your profiles based on the time on your cellphone (auto 'silent' mode if you are in office from 9-5). The voice alarm functionality I presume would not be used by most of the populace considering the low sound. But you have the option of using other loud mechanisms for getting up :) considering that this phone has enough and more tunes in store on the phone. The handsfree speaker on the phone is pretty loud and is pretty useful. The operating frequency of this phone is the standard GSM 900/1800.

I would recommend this phone for anybody who does not need the intricacies and slowness associated with Symbian phones in the Nokia phone lineup. It does the functionality it is built for and then some more with aplomb. And yea the phone supports polyphone (mp3 type) ringtones for the discerning 'sound' audience :)

With this I conclude my review of this wonderful product. Hope this review helps in making your decision when on a tight budget.
