Hi,

This review I am writing just because I saw that this phone is a bit too over rated over-here. We would go point by point on all the features that are rated. Anyways it might hurt a few die hard fans of nokia, that its a bit too much over rated vis-avis other phones(e.g; Sony-Ericsson). I myself have been using my Nokia-1108 for past 1-year. Found it to be slim, durable and with a good sms interface. Nevertheless its a bit too costly. When I bought it it was 3300/- in the dealer's shop. Dunno what but I heard after I bought that a few guys got it for 2800/- . Whatever the case maybe it was approx 3000/-. Now it seems it's 2300 or something.

Anyways lets come to the point of discussion:

Sound Reception:

Yeah, I agree with all that the sound reception is good. But there are better phones in this field, like Sony-Ericsson whose sounds are crystal clear. But Nokia 1108 is not bad also. I have given it generous rating in this regard.

Ease of Use:

The lesser you carry, the faster you run !! That's an old proverb.....oh no...even it's not an old or its not even a proverb, okay everybody lets put it that its my opinion.

Yes, it's easy to use because there is not much functionality in this plastic box !!! What? lots of things? Okay we'd debate on it in the range of features....anyways you have a call end button thats handy, also for replying to a sms we can directly go in for that just from the panel of viewing the message. But thats okay, given it a very good rating as whatever features they have, they have spent time in deciding on how to make the menu's and what might be the conditions under which its used. A very good example is the alarm clock, it has settings for all 7 days in week (on saturday-sunday my alarm clock is at 11:00am!!!).

Style & Design:

The design is good, but they could have provided with a grey-black combo that might have looked more appealing than the white-blue or the full white color schemes. The phone is well balanced so that you can message with one hand itself without even fearing that the phone might slip. Given it a good rating because of this point. Also the size is small and slim thats also adds to portability.

Range Of Features:

Clearly speaking after shelling out 3000/- bucks i'm not satisfied with what it provides. Would have been happy if it were providing at least polyphonic ringtones and colored screen, and would have been comfortable with polyphonic tones, but it gives neither. And so my friends I am not happy. Yes it has many other features like flash-lights that I use regularly. But the headset has gone nuts and I have to do a micrometer fine tuning to get it working and witha lot of environment noise. Then again a fly sits on the headset-phone connector and again I have to do the adjustments allover again. Moreover you cant even change the ringtones.

I am not much of a forgetful person when it comes to important dates so I dont use the reminder functionality. All in all, the number of features that I can use and those features that I would be satisfied with are not there or even if there is not of the quality of satisfaction.

Clearly speaking I would want the Nokia-1108 to have been available at that time only with 2000/- tag. The current pricing is O.K but not 3000/-. But even with 2000/- Sony-Ericsson has a better looking feature of polyphonic tones(32-tones) & 65k color screen. So given one to chose it'll be sony-ericsson who'd get my 2000/-.

Reliability & Durability:

This is a great sturdy mobile and scores a plenty in the reliability & durability fronts !!! it's like the ambassador versus the marutis !!! The ambassador is a tank without turret, solid....but its the maruti which is on the roads.

I have played cricket with the cell in my pocket and also have a good many falls(on my hips!!!), after getting up I used to check that the whole 70kg did anything to the 70 gm cellphone(it's 86gms but just for presenting it with a style ;-) ). But always a reassuring ringing tone from the otherside used to convey that the phone is "Alive and Ringing".

On this point I am told that the sony is like the maruti...once bumped you better start praying it works. So full marks to 1108 in this regard.

Value For Money:

Short and simple NO.

Overall:

Would have given Excellent if (polyphonic + color )

Very Good: (polyphonic )

Good : (Color)

Average: (Current)

Poor: (Suppose they would have kept the same tag of 3333/- as last year !!!! )

Put up some comments if you differ in my views about the phone, maybe this phone got a negative psychology from me as I had to buy it at 3300/- and just 4 months later people were having it for 2800/- but the bottomline is i'm not satisfied with what I payed and what I got !!!!

Even if you agree, I would like to hear your comments too, would know how many of you people think that Nokia, regardless of any models is too overpriced. Otherwise, it is a case that I am under-walleted (one more of my inventive words)!!
