Silence in the cinema hall.

A suspicious wife. A guilty husband. A sexy bombshell hiding in the bathroom. The wife looks around, then feels reassured. The husband and the bombshell heave a collective sigh of relief. As the wife is leaving, the bombshell looks at a – hold your breath – cockroach !All hell breaks loose. She screams and comes running out of her hiding place – straight into the arms of the shocked husband.

That was the moment I screamed too. The sight of that huge, black cockroach filling the screen almost killed me. Popcorn went flying in the air. Mercifully it was intermission and I got a good five minutes to have my hysterics in peace.

Apart from that one hitch, I enjoyed this movie tremendously.

To be absolutely honest, the story line is wafer thin, the plot is like a rudderless boat – but you sail through. And while you are sailing, you will have a great time – because you’ll be laughing so hard that you may have tears rolling down your cheeks.

Story

----------------------------

The story revolves around three men : Kishen (Anil Kapoor), a seedha saadha husband of a suspicious wife, Kaajal (Lara Dutta) ; Prem (Salman Khan), flirtatious husband of a trusting wife, Pooja (Esha Deol). And Sunny (Fardeen Khan) who does not know whether he is going or coming, but all he knows is that he loves Sanjana (Celina Jaitley).

Enter temptation in the form of a nightclub dancer, Bobby (Bipasha Basu). What happens next is simply too complicated to write down here. Mixed identitieslead to Confusion Five Plus till no one really knows who is whose husband and who is whose wife. If I am sounding incoherent, forgive me. The plot is so crazy that this is the best I can do. But somehow, in the end, all ends well (but of course !)

Anil Kapoor is simply superb – there is no other way to describe him. His exaggerated facial expressions are too hilarious. He shines in all the scenes, especially the ones in which he shares space with Fardeen Khan.Somehow the duo reminded me of Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels in ‘Dumb and Dumber’ though I was not sure who was dumb and who was dumber. They outclassed each other when it came to looking the dunce of the show. The duo will take you for a trip in the Land of the Funnies and you may feel that you’d die laughing.

For his introductory scene, Salman Khandanced shirtless on the beach for the umpteenth time with bikini-clad blondes and brunettes on some familiar sounding song. He is supposed the ‘smart one’ among the friends – methinks it must not have been a hard task looking more coherent than those two. To give this man his credit, he did a good job. He elicited his share of laughs though I am still puzzled why he disappeared for a rather long time in the middle of the movie only to materialize later in the climax.

Full marks to Boman Irani who gave this movie his brand class just by appearing for about three and a half scenes. That man is absolutely brilliant and probably the most amazing Bollywood discovery in last some years.

Lara Duttawins hands down for the perfect portrayal of a suspicious but ‘very much in love’ wife. I was amazed to see this girl in action. I just had no idea that she could act this well.

Esha Deol’srole was a guest appearance – so you hardly get to see her. Celina Jaitleywas rather sweet and endearing. So far, I had this idea that she is one of those wooden dolls whose only claim to fame is exposing but now I know that Celina is capable of much more.

Bipasha Basusimply oozes sensuality. She is required to look either sexy or puzzled and that’s about it. No histrionics over here. Bipasha is simply made for these kinda roles and so, her casting is almost perfect.

At times, I found my hands itching for an editor’s scissors so that I could go snip, snip, snip and cut off some useless, repetitive scenes – because some sequences were absolutely unnecessary. For example, the scene between Boman Irani and Salman Khan in South Africa was redundant. Most of the scenes in Mauritius made no sense.

Yet, in the end, I would say the comic timing is superb. The characters are simply goofy. There are absolutely no pretences and no tall claims. This is a plain and simple comedy and all you are expected to do is laugh and then laugh some more.

I would also say – just throw all your troubles, tensions and dilemmas behind yourself and go watch this movie. You will come out of the theatre, much refreshed.
