Overview - It is a good upgrade from the brother D5200, having additions like wifi, GPS, removal of low pass filter and a lighter body which gives great picture quality. Lets go through the detailed review which will help people to decide their purchase. Picture quality - As usual whether its a canon or nikon basically with DSLR picture quality you cannot go wrong. Same here with Nikon D5300. Even confidently it can be said that it beats many cameras of its class in picture quality. Be it detail, sharpness, saturation it is a beast. 24 MP sensor without low pass filter gives great detail. Though this update is not much noticeable, but picture quality is outstanding. Enlarge the image at its full blow, you will hardly see any blemishes. It is a delight to see the picture taken with this camera.

VIdeo - Video quality is very good, if compared with D5200 it is better in smoothness and colour accuracy. Sometimes video taken in Canon 700D or 600D looks better but video size in canon camera takes larger space in memory card. Hence, hats off to nikon D5300.

Body and Control: It is ligher, smaller than D5200 and comes with a better grip. Controls are almost like D5200, not much difference. As usual all nikon entry level cameras are same in control and handling department, means the user will have to press many buttons to access the features. If better control is needed you need to pay a little more and go with D7100 and above.

Display - The display has been upgraded from the D5200, by increasing the size a little from 3 inch to 3.2 inch and increasing the resolution a little more. The picture taken looks good that's the main goal. Finally the picture taken by a DSLR will be seen in a larger screen to enjoy its sweetness. Though it does not provide touch screen like canon 700D which makes control little fun and easy. If you need touch screen then need to choose D5500. But practically speaking touch screen in camera is not that necessary.

Wifi and GPS - These two are added feature which is a very good thing, but still depends on the user. Wifi is a handy feature to share your photos instantly through smart phone. But picture size will be reduced. Picture can be clicked by using the smart phone as well through this feature but only photo clicking, no other control, not even video shooting.

GPS is a battery eating feature only, not much useful.

Final verdict - It is a good camera, but you need to think whether you really need wifi, GPS a little larger screen or not. For that you will have to pay more money. Video quality and Battery life is better than D5200. Otherwise you won't find much difference in picture quality. If someone is already having D5200 or even D5100 no need to upgrade. If someone is interested to buy a new DSLR it is a good option though the view finder could have been better. Finally this camera is highly recommended for purchase but better to try other options like nikon D3300 and Canon 700D or 600D and decide your purchase.
