I bought it about one month ago. it is good Camera for photographer. I do still have my D40 - and must say, it still works very simply and everyone can make good shots with it. The menu system of the D40 is very clear and easy to use. There are 4 main menu options, Playback, Shooting, Custom Setting Menu, Setup and Retouch, represented by both icons and text. The various options in each of the 4 menus are clearly displayed in a large font size, and cleverly the current setting for each one is shown to the right as an icon - very neat. There are some issues that keep the D40 back from being the perfect entry-level D-SLR. Older Nikon or Nikon-compatible D-SLR lenses. Nikon AF-S lenses won't have autofocus capabilities when installed on this new model. In addition, to my eyes, the photos taken with the other dslr camera's were sharper and had slightly better color than the D40's. In my flash test shots, I found that the strobe blew out highlights. And my other point . . . go have fun with whatever camera you buy! LOL It's all about getting those memories and images to print!
