Dasara, according to Maharashtrian tradition (marathi parampara) something new should be bought on this auspicious day. So, this year I decided to buy a digital camera. I am not very fond of cameras. My miniDV takes care of my snapping needs, but not offering me a great resolution. Initially, Nikon Coolpix 5900(5.1 megapixel) was in my mind, but ended up buying the latest…………

MY CLICK…CLICK…CLICK EXPERIENCE

--------------------------------------------------------------

Nikon Coolpix P1 is a tiny & silky body model, chances of falling down through hands are more. So, first thing I did is attached the camera strap, thereafter, charged the battery for one hour as battery was not come fully charged, meanwhile, I went through reference manual & main functions. After installing the battery properly, I shot some pictures of my bedroom as it was a night time, tried some shots at night scene mode, when I saw the final output on my PC, really impressed with sharp and clear images. Some photos shot under low light, but they were also found with amazing clarity.

The next morning, I went to outdoor shoot to have more pictures in day light. I used maximum resolution i.e.3264x2448 to a low resolution i.e.640x480, jpeg file size which I got through max. resolution is about 5.2mb & can be printed to a size of 11 inch x 8 inch and the images can be shot at 9 different resolutions, apart from this, 3 different types of image quality options i.e. Fine, Normal, Basic.

Some of the features/functions that impressed me the most :-

Panorama Assist :- if there is a large landscape scene, I have to capture it in one scene then this scene mode is very useful. By using this mode, I can

take the series of pictures of large landscape then transfer all scenes to the PC using Panorama Maker function in PictureProject software to join them all in one single scene.

Copy :- Using this scene mode, I took clear pictures of text in printed matter.

BBS (Best Shot Selector) :-When this function is on, the camera takes a maximum of ten pictures as long as the shutter-release button is held down. Then, the camera compared and the sharpest picture is saved to the memory or memory card.

Rechargeable EN-EL8 lithium-ion battery is capable of shooting approx.180 shots on a single charge.

CONECTIVITY

---------------------

UC-E6 USB cable (PC) :- Lot of electronic gadgets are connected to my desktop, Nikon is one more addition to that. Installation procedure is very simple, first connected the digicam with PC through USB cable, installed driver & Picture project software. Used transfer option from Picture Project Software to transfer all photos from camera to PC and really impressed with the quality of images.

This cable can be used to connect the camera to a printer that supports PictBridge, pictures can be printed directly from memory or the memory card without transferring to the computer.

Wi-fi communication :- My Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop have a wi-fi compatibility, never tried this feature due to less availability of wi-fi gadgets. This digicam gives me an opportunity to test this feature…installation procedure is same as of desktop. After installation, I have created one profile…. n number of profiles can be created…after that I restarted laptop as well as digicam, I set the camera to Wi-fi mode and yes laptop detected the wi-fi device in the range. Then I transferred some photos in a flalsh. I also tested it’s range, laptop received photo which I send it from 25 feets. One more useful option in wi-fi menu is shot & send, just shot the photo and send directly to Laptop without storing it to the camera memory or SD memory card.

EG-CP14 Audio/Video Cable(TV) :- This cable can be used for viewing photos on television.

PICTURE PROJECT 1.6

-----------------------------------

The software that bundles with this digicam. It’s very easy to use, it transfers images automatically when camera connected to PC. This software has 3 main sections i.e.organize, edit and design. Organize section arranging transferred images in proper way. In edit section, different photo effects can be applied to transferred images like D-Lighting HS, Color Booster, etc. In Design section, design templates can be applied to the images. This software can’t be compared with Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro, but its’ useful for the basic user.

CAMERA BOX CONTAINS

---------------------------------------

A Nikon Coolpix P1 Digital Camera, UC-E6 USB cable, MH-62 battery charger, EN/EL8 Rechargeable Li-ion battery, EG-CP14 audio/video(A/V) cable, Camera strap and a Reference Manual

EXTRA BUY

------------------

SD memory card :- Various capacities of memory cards are available in the market...right from 16mb to 2gb, I decided to go for 1gb memory card. One Hour video of 640x480 resolution can be stored. Now, look at its’ storing capacity at different resolutions [image mode=Normal]

3264 x 2448 = 499 images, 2592 x 1944 = 780 images, 2048 x 1536 = 1224 images, 1600 x 1200 = 1952 images, 1280 x 960 = 2974 images, 1024 x 768 = 4164 images, 640x480 = 8192 images.

Finally, Nikon Coolpix P1 is a great powerhouse digicam, no doubt. I think it’s my worth buy.
