Nikon is one brand that needs no introduction and it does make some fabulous piece of picture capturing gadgets. The new one on the block being the L6. I got one of this from the Bynahoi electronic market in Shanghai. The very look of it lured me to go for one. Its so compact and still packs in so much.. I mean the features and the fact that it was just recently launched made me go for one.
The Nikon Cool Pix L6 is a 6 Megapix camera with 3x optical zoom. Its small, weighs pretty less at 125g. The casing is quite strong and good and so is the chrome finish given around. It looks pretty good. It comes with the nikor lens which I think are one of the best around. The LCD is a 115000 pixels 2.5" one and its fabulous. It is a truly dynamic camera; a focal range of 38 – 116mm makes it possible to accurately capture the detail and colour of both the smallest nature shot and the widest landscapes. I did take some snaps roaming around shanghai especially around the Shanghai TV Tower.
Also it comes shod with Energiser batteries and claim a very long life, that too a whopping 1000 images. Thats something, we in india would love it for. Its something that sets apart the L6 from its competition. I think most others would take say around 300-400 max snaps per a set of battery. This would be really good, when you go on long trips and you are in places where the human population is at its scarcest.
The L6 also features a high ISI sensitivity at 800 which actually helps people to take pictures in low light, without having to use a long exposure. I could find people working hard taking snaps during dusk where they need to concentrate on the object for long to get a snap and that too a poor one. With IS 800 I could feel the difference that this nikon had to my previous canon. Even at night I could take snaps that were just fabulous. Any doubts???.. I can always prove it with the snaps that I have. The camera is also able to intelligently adjust images in order to achieve optimal results in any set of conditions. By simply selecting one of 15 Scene Modes most closely corresponding to the scene at hand, the COOLPIX L6 is able to automatically choose the best settings for the optimum results. Four of these handy Scene Modes also feature a Scene assist, which helps users to achieve better composition., better clarity and possibly better snaps.
The Nikon L6 makes it simple to get great-looking results in challenging situations. Three unique in-camera Nikon image innovations adjust the image, detecting and correcting imperfections: Face Priority automatically detects and achieves sharp focus on people’s faces wherever they are in the frame; In-Camera Red-Eye Fix automatically overcomes the red-eye effect sometimes caused by flash; and D-Lighting makes it possible to rescue underexposed images or shots taken with too much back-light. Just take any snap at night and then go in for the D-lighting option and it would rather give you a delighting snap. It would have the original snap and the new d-lighted one and you can see for yourself, that the snaps are much brighter and clear.
Also included is a function which allows the user to connect the camera directly to PictBridge-compatible printers to produce beautiful photos without the need for a computer. You have chords to connect directly to your TV and watch all those snaps and movies in it. And I guess this is one camera where I had quite a lot of video files that would run for atleast 1/2 an hour , obviously with the 2GB SD card that I purchsed.
This Nikon's intelligent functions ensures that the camera does all the hard work; you simply have to find your subject, and click it. I have had it with me for a month and I am mighty impressed with its credentials. SO would others, I believe. So, signing off on a good note.
