I was looking for a camera to gift myself on my b?day. But on consulting my uncle, I planned to wait for it a bit, since the prices were starting to drop and the budget was just going to be introduced. Then I landed with this beautiful piece of technology, the Nikon 4300, and I LOVE it.

It?s a 4-mega-pixel camera, with a wonderful flash (I was totally floored by its flash intensity, and believe me you too would be, once you use this beauty). In a pitch dark cave, where nothing was visible through the viewfinder, I just shot at random, and the faces were brightly lit, which was just AMAZING!!!

It has the 12 programming modes offered by Nikon, along with the feature wherein you can record a 2 min movie, however, without sound. Though I won?t mind that cause after all it?s a point and shoot camera and not a camcorder. It has 3x optical zoom capacity, which serves fine for a pleasure trip, and a bit more, though not apt for professional photography.

The micro level photography is also wonderful. You can take a snap as close as 2mm (that was really wonderful, took a snap of a little insect, it looked so cute). The battery lasts for around 80 mins in standard conditions, however if you use flash, it eats up the battery quickly.

It comes with a 16 MB CF card, which can store 8 snaps of fine quality, 16 of normal and 32 of basic quality. However I would recommend you upgrading your memory to at least 64 MB, after all you won?t like to get stuck with a camera which would store only 16 photos on a trip for 5 days. The photos are stored as jpeg images, and can be easily downloaded via the USB port. If you get the snaps printed, they can be enlarged up to 11X8 size, without the pictures loosing their clarity.

I would definitely recommend the Coolpix 4300 than other cameras, if you are looking for a good camera in the same price range. Moreover the cameras from the people who manufacture optical products is always a safe bet to buy rather than who manufacture electronic goods. It really is worth the money you?d spend for it.
