Nikon announced the CoolPix 995 on 25 April 2001. It is the latest in it's CoolPix series. It has a 28mm lens along with some accessories, two Wide-Angle lenses, a Super Wide-Angle Fisheye, and two sharp Telephoto lenses. It runs on Nikon EN-EL1 Lithium-Ion rechargeable included or 2CR5 Lithium batteries and charger included (MH-51 in US, MH-50 elsewhere). It's weight including battery is 454g (1.0 lb)

It is made up of the following; body - LCD portion:- magnesium alloy, Lens portion:- polycarbonate plastic (Glass fibre 15%); Lens - 4 x optical zoom, 38 - 152 mm equivalent with max aperture F 2.6 - F 5.1 with sensitivity - 'Auto, ISO 100, 200, 400, 800' and an internal flash.

It supports the following resolutions - 2048 x 1536, 1600 x 1200, 1280 x 960, 1024 x 768 & 640 x 480 and 700 pictures in Fine Quality Mode.

It supports auto focusing and manual picture settings that can be set through a built in menu system. This includes setting WB auto bracket, Saturation control, Noise reduction, Shutter speed , Picture quality, C-Y-G-M color settings, White Balance (Fine, Incandescent, Fluorescent, Cloudy, Speedlight), Continuous or Movie clip (QuickTime MOV format, 320 x 240, no audio) capture, Self-timer, etc...

For output, it has a 'Video out' with selectable NTSC / PAL, 'Storage media' of Compact Flash Type I or Type II & IBM Microdrive, though not officially supported, it it what I use for mine.

On Purchase storage includes 16 MB Compact Flash card (Lexar ''Jumpshot''). It can be connected to a computer through an USB Port.

It's body is designed to have a perfect balance when the battery is inserted and can be used with one hand. An LCD panel on the top shows current settings and power status.

On an official purchase you will get the following...

A note - The Coolpix 995's user manual is excellent, 178 pages covering every detail of the camera, operation and use in different photographic situations. Excellent.

In conclusion, I would definitely recommend this product. I myself took about a 100 photos to perfect each and every aspect of the CP 995. Last december my brothers got married. I took about 700 photos in the wedding and related functions & programmes. Then we deleted all useless photos. Hence a digital in general can be useful in these circumstances. I also took some animal life photos in close up. Download the file from the following url. It is a picture of a Bee sucking nectar from a flower. It was taken by my brother using Close Up capture mode. Check the meta data in a image viewing software like Photoshop or ACD See.
