Long wait for a Hindustani Movie .... and a longer wait for a Good Hindustani Movie ... ends with New York. After months of Strike and Months of "not so please for me" cricket, finally a movie releases .. and the result ?? Crowds flock to the audis to watch it no matter who it starred and who made it.
Let me make things Clear - New York is not the BEST we have seen this year, it is far far behind GULAL in terms of everything including music. However, New York can be seen as one of the good movies released in this year.
Plot:
Its the story of 3 people, Samir Shaiikh ( John Abraham ), Maya ( Katrina Kaif ) and Umar Aijaz ( Neil Nitin ). 3 Friends who are having a good fun filled life part after the 0911 incident when Umar decides to leave ( reason : Maya proposed to Samir and Umar too loved Maya, so KLPD basically ).
After years the police marks Umar as a terrorist suspect and takes him in detention. They want him to be an infiltrator into Samir's house in leiu of his freedom, which Umar reluctantly Agrees to ..... and the Police wanted this cuz Samir was one of the Prime suspect of Terrorism who accroding to police was about to bring to reality one of the biggest terrorist attacks.
Now what ....BANG, and , Umar enters Samir's and Maya's life again. They have the same rapport going on from Day 1 itself. Umar tries a lot to convince Samir that he is also raging to do something against the Americans, finally Samir falls for it and discloses all his plans to Umar, then what happens is to be seen.
Highlights of the Movies:
Performances of the Lead actors:
John has performed his role well and its different from his usual hush hosh acting. Offlate John has been performing well and this performance adds to his list of good performances like Goal and Kabul Express.
Katrina - the non actress, acts this time and that too convincingly. Her second best performance after Namaste London. Needless to say, She looked pretty :)
Neil Nitin - After a good JG and a screwed up ADZ this guy again delivers making it clear that give him in the hands of a a good director he will do well else he will .... ahem... good performance here ...
Irfan Khan - He is very good as he usually is. This man can even do well in bad movies like Billo Barber, this one atleast had some substance to it. Props to Irrfan.
The Music
Especially the Songs JUNOON and TERE SANG are great to listen to and a must add to your playlists.
Directions and Screenplay
Are awesome, Kabir Khan delivers yet again, though a little lesser than what he delivered in KE. He certainly is a good director in the making and the sooner he leave the YRF camp will be better for him.
The camera work is another highlight of the film. The dialouges and everything else looked to fall quite in place.
Overall - Its a good to watch movie with some good performances, music and some opulent scenes.
The message that this movie gives is loud and clear : Terrorism isnt justified and its been more that 8 years now since the people who wanna become terrorists have suffered. Think about reppurcursion and think about family, its long gone and try to change things in a better way.
Rating - 3.5 out of 5.
