I have just read a book titled, 'Jab se you have loved me... the story of an Airhostess and an IITian' by S.R.Saha that brought back the memories of my visit to New York last summer. I too had felt like the protagonist, an IITian who landed in New York and said, 'I fell in love with America as soon as I came out of JFK (however a politically incorrect statement that might be)'. I would suggest that one buys this book on his trip to the USA from https://flipkart.com, or any big bookstore likeStarmark or Crossword. It costs just Rs. 99/- and will be a great read on the plane.
Now, back to New York. I had gone there along with a tour operator. The tour was nice beginning with a visit to the Statue of Liberty. But remember, there will be checks everywhere and the security men are often quite rude. Do not argue with them and remove any jackets or whatever you have as they say. The ground zero site will shake you from inside.
The others places to see are okay I guess, though I loved the view from the Empire State Building. New York is very cold and do take adequate clothing. But whatever you take, don't forget to take the book, 'Jab se...' if you are going to the USA, the best book that I have read ontake-off onUSA after 'The Inscrutible Americans' by Anurag Mathur.
